None of the values she described are Canadian. What she's describing are universal values. Canadian values would be things like official bilingualism and the separate school system.

I don't think so, either. These Republican wannabes figure that we're really just Northern Americans. If she were better tuned in to her own people and culture, she would know that we're nothing of the sort.

She comes across as a fossil in this video...slow and out of touch. I think releasing this was a mistake.

I question even the basic logistics of her proposal. to require a person to possess a knowledge of this or that law is one thing, but to expect him to truthfully tell an immigration officer what he believes when he knows he's being tested is quite another. They'll just memorize the test.

Secondly, has she ever crossed a security checkpoint in her life? I've crossed many, and I can tell you that to require CBSA officers to interview each tourist entering Canada would:

1. bloat the immigration bureaucracy. Imagine the interpreters required too.
2. logjam Canadian airports!
3. result in at least some officers abusing this power to discriminate against people from races and cultures they don't like.

These are just some of the basic logistical problems she'd need to address.

Now that I think about it, I suppose logistically they could interview every aspiring tourist at a Canadian embassy before issuing a visa. But then again, we need more staff at Canadian embassies who know the local language so that they can interview each person. While we could pass the cost on to them through an interview fee, that could discourage tourism to Canada. Add to that that other countries could reciprocate, just like Brazil required US citizens to fingerprint at the airport after 911 when the US imposed that.

And that still leaves us with how to ensure an officer does not make his decision based on prejudice and, more importantly, how to ensure that this values test doesn't teach people to lie about what they believe.

she is a stupid, stupid person. I think that she should pay more attention to production values, which are measurable, rather than her weird obsession with these mythical "canadian values".

If she turned to measurable objective criteria, maybe she'd have a point. But these 'Canadian values' tests would be nebulous at best.

I could only sit through a couple minutes of that.

The separate school system is not a Canadian value. I couldn't tell you what Canadian values are but I know that is not one of them.

It's entrenched in the Constitution Act 1982 both in the old part and the newer Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Most Canadians worship that Charter as sacrosanct. I don't worship it myself, and it certainly doesn't belong to my values, but I think it's fair to say it's a Canadian value when it's defended in the highest secular law of the land.

Just looking at her, Nazi appears to be an understatement.

Is she proposing the establishment of death camps?

In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if she were in fact a White supremacist, but that would be based on her secret beliefs which we can only speculate on.

but as for her known public statements, she's far from being a neo-Nazi, albeit still quite prejudiced against foreign nationals no doubt. But national prejudice, though contemptible, does not in any way equate with Nazism.
