I understand Harper was there in drag, and he left halfway through the third round.

Alcohol nor cigs are safe and yet we legalize it.

What difference does it make? Do stupid people care whether things are legal or not? (Don't jump to conclusions, I'm just using the word "stupid" on your terms.)

I haven't made up my mind on him either way. Attributes like smiling, shaking hands, engaging in friendly conversation are essential but like breathing, in themselves don't qualify you for Prime Ministership! We saw his old man for many years, so it's wise to remember the old adage, "the acorn don't fall far from the tree", BUT, there's another old adage...."there's an exception to every rule", so we simply don't know.

He ain't as smart as his father.

Dumb like a Fox. Right. Why was he such a political powerhouse for so long?

Possibly for several reasons, firstly his youthful appearance, compared to the old codgers like Louis, John and Lester and he had a bit of an aura about him, secondly on a bit of sh*t house luck, I think there was one election where he just squeaked in, thirdly Joe Clark was too honest and not suave enough and fourth the threat of gas prices going up. (Oh yeah and #5 "Fuddle Duddle" gained him a little popularity.) -:)

Clarke should have cut a deal with Ed Broadbent, or formed a coalition with Fabian Roy's Creditists and persuaded some right wing liberals in Quebec to cross the floor.

Justin Trudeau: Canada’s (Future) Pothead PM?

The 101 for PJ’s mostly American readers…

If one dope smoker can make it to the White House, then surely another one can get elected prime minister of Canada?

At an establishment conservative confab in D.C. a while back, someone asked me if Canadians could possibly be stupid enough to throw over Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper for an unaccomplished, photogenic airhead like Justin Trudeau, based solely on that particular Liberal MP’s particular arrangement of DNA molecules.

I nodded in the general direction of what I hoped was the White House and replied:

“Who’ve you got, then?”

What Americans have got in Obama is, for one thing, an unapologetic member of the “Choom Gang,” as his dope-smoking college pals dubbed themselves.

You guys went from “I didn’t inhale” to “Damn right I did” in one generation, so I doubt recent not-so-shocking revelations about Justin Trudeau’s little pot habit could keep him out of 24 Sussex Drive.

After all, Canada is much much more relaxed about marijuana use than the U.S is.

However, we’re not as casual about it as you may think. The situation is a bit… bipolar.

The fact is, when Justin Trudeau toked up “three years ago” (cough), he not only broke the law, but did so as a sitting member of Parliament.

Conservative Justice Minister Peter MacKay commented:

“By flouting the laws of Canada while holding elected office, he shows he is a poor example for all Canadians, particularly young ones. Justin Trudeau is simply not the kind of leader our country needs.”

(Which prompted our version of Bill Maher — comedian-commentator Rick Mercer — to tweet “a dorky picture of the justice minister from the 1989 Dalhousie law school yearbook, drinking from a beer bong.”)

This thread is getting bloody ridiculous, as if 4 or 5 joints in his life are the biggest concern about Justin! Did anyone concern themselves with Pierre's "smoking habits"? (Or whatever else it was that screwed him up) I guess it don't take much to make news these days!

“The 'airhead' just derailed Harper's big summer Arctic photo op fest.

When the LAAS program was 'shut down by GWB and 255 Calgary jobs were lost, the Calgary CON caucus was 'here no evil, see no evil'.

CDN's are tired of Harper era graft deals...ask THE PMO ABOUT LAAS AND PELORUS NAVIGATION, Locutus..

Not just dope. They elected an alcoholic (Bush, but so did we with John A). I was really surprised when I read Obama's book in which he admitted to doing cocaine. He clearly didnt have his mind set on politics when he wrote it. It didn't seem to hurt him when he threw is hat in the ring though.

We have already elected PMs and premiers who have done drugs. If this Trudeau gets elected the only difference will be that he admitted it before taking office.

I was pretty sure young Bush is a teetotaler.
