JFK and RFK were opportunistic scumbags.

I read one story that Jackie was getting one of the Secret Service guy's attention, and another that she was attempting to retrieve a piece of skull that skittered across the trunk deck. It's like everything else about that day. Your guess is as good as anyone's.
She was in a big hurry to get away from the mass of pulpy flesh that was her husband just moments before.

The JFK show on CNN made a great point. It said that given so many people felt the government was involved in the shooting this event was the dawn of the modern day distrust of government. The 60's exploded with anti-government movements, like the hippies and anti-Vietnam war.

They interviewed the secret service guy who was on the back of the car. He said Jackie was collecting a part of the head.

Pretty funny considering what the parting words were for the President who sighned the FED into being on Tuesday, December 23,1913. You can tell what a good day that was for America by all the celebrations that go along with that date in history. In truth it was so good for America that it won't even be mentioned let along a big remembrance thing.

Nor I. Hope I never do. In a ways she was lucky. She could have been killed too. Its amazing how well she handled it. There is that famous picture of her with LBJ as he was being sworn in as President. That was only about two hours later.
yes she wore it all day and refused to remove it. She said: "I want them to see what they have done" It never was made clear about who "they" was. Her suit is now in a vault kept at a certain temperature to preserve the wool. The hat she wore has since disappeared. Jackie always appeared composed, superior, elegant and aloof while at the same time warm, embracing and charming...quite an ability to possess.

I liked the Kennedys both of them. Also tonight Robert Jr made the comment
Kennedy sent advisors to Vietnam not soldiers as Ike did..

Advisors... like Green Beret "advisors"... those types?

Kennedy has 12,000 "advisors" in Vietnam by the end on 1962 and 300 US Manned helicopters.

Revisionism.... pfft

wow, that's pretty graphic...never seen it like that before, up close and personal...why would she climb across the back of the car?

It was to pick up a piece of his brain/skull to put it back.

She was indeed. I didn't know that she refused to take off her dress for that reason. That was a statement.

I know that she refused to let go of his head and leave the vehicle until he was covered. She was an intelligent woman and I am sure she knew he was gone.

Has anyone ever seriously denied that? A lot of politicians like to get around inconvenient things by using words like "advisors" instead of soldiers. "Police action" instead of war, or "resolution" instead of declaration of war. Would the war have happened had Kennedy lived? We'll never really know. I think there is a decent case that can be argued on both sides and I doubt that argument is going to stop anytime soon. He had been pretty successful at avoiding wars while he was in office. The Berlin wall started going up while he was President. That had the potential to escalate to a war as did the Cuban Missile Crisis. When he did listen to the military and authorized the Bay of Pigs invasion it turned into a disaster. He seemed to learn from it judging by how he acted afterwards. Still, they might have still gone into Vietnam. A number of people who were in Kennedy's cabinet (including his brother) were in favour of war when it started. Most changed their mind within a few years. It was the war which led to RFK challenging LBJ for the nomination in '68. If he had lived and won he might have ended the war a few years sooner than it actually did. Though its possible he wouldnt have. Nixon said he was going to end it but didnt get around to it til he had been in office for a few years.

Indeed. Given the type of person she was Im surprised that she stayed with Kennedy. She knew he was screwing around on her all the time. She could have done better.

How many got killed?
Johnson went whole hog and 60,000 deaths and 160,000 wounded later what did they get, **** all. I'm pretty sure Kennedy wouldn't have said the same thing Johnson said when an American ship being attacked by Israel, 'I want that goddamn ship on the bottom'

LiveLeak.com - USS Liberty Attacked, June 8, 1967

Did two US aircraft carriers respond by launching fighter aircraft, which were then recalled by the White House? Did Rear Admiral Geiss, who commanded the aircraft carriers, call the White House directly to question the recall order, only to be told by Johnson: "I want that goddamn ship going to the bottom. No help. Recall the wings."

Did you know?

British authors C.S. Lewis (who gave us many great works, including The Chronicles of Narnia) and Aldous Huxley (who gave us works including the novel Brave New World) both died on the same day that Kennedy died.

Yet their deaths were overshadowed by the death of JFK, who achieved a lot less than Lewis and Huxley did.

Yes I did know that and under other circumstances their deaths would have been mourned in a much larger way that is true.

By today's standards they would not have been placed on such a pedestal. They were both womanizers, they stabbed people in the back, including almost getting Frank Sinatra killed after he went to the the Union (cough cough) bosses and got their support. It was John F Kennedy who committed troops to Vietnam. So where does this idiotic hero worship come from?

Certainly don't wish they got shot, but like many icons (John Lennon) they are more myth than anything.

I totally agree with you on this RCS. People hero worship I guess because they need too, mostly probably because they are lacking in any strengths, and lack confidence. They put these people on a pedestal, they do not realize that they are just the same as anyone els in this world.

true enough...overshadowing

it's like that 15 year old genius kid here in my city at the Perimeter Institute, both of his younger brothers are gifted as well, one is a scientist and the other a mathematician, but when your brother is smarter than Einstein well, your genius doesn't shine quite as brightly

oh well, it's all relative eh?
