No bad mouthing intended, Pea ... If I weren't so happily attached I'd be squaw wrestling you for his affections. I'd keep my eye on him, if I were you. I hear Twila is on the prowl!

Again, your missing the whole point. If you(or others) want to introduce the historical Jesus as an arguement for your side then you should also be prepared to follow other teachings that he gave. (Which I doubt you are prepared to listen to.)

As I stated earlier, lets leave religious arguements outside this forum because they are only valid among individuals with similar beliefs.

Now you've gone and done it Rev and tibear...I was quite willing to post something on-topic...but I can't resist this...

I have read that there is NO evidence that Jesus ever existed...any "historical" writings that the apologists so desperately cling to are second or third party accounts of hearsay information...well after the Christ-cult had taken root in the middle-east...

There is, however, a decided lack of documentation by contemporaneous historians...

In researching this particular issue, I found that the following site makes some solid points which puts the possibility of a historical Jesus on some very shaky ground...

I might be able to catch one of those fairies that hid under toad stools to get out of the rain....

There is a fairie grove by my old house....I swear it is the perfect place for fairies....The sunshines in there in a very special way. No other place has the sun shine in on it this way........

Well twila, You were not around the board when galaniomama and I would take Charlie out and about among the people, and post pics here at the board.  Yes Charlie went everywhere.. and people would pose with him. Some rugrats even bought him things...although charlie is not partial to donuts...refined white sugar and all :p....In the land of the drones, the appearance of charlie always caused a stir...and lots of fun...the japanese loved him.....maybe they thought he was origami :p Extrodinary how some paper and glue can create so much fun

It was only adults that asked what Charlie's purpose was, of course  but you know I never met a rugrat that asked me...they just knew  ....which brings me to why Charlie departed in August, only to return with all his things wraped up in a hanky on a stick back on my doorstep :?

Each year I return to my home town of Port Alberni for the annual Salmon derby...of course Charlie comes...on this particular visit a rugrat that I know...a very clever one to. Big eyes and a voice like shirley temple (total munipulation) wanted Charlie for herself. It became clear that she needed charlie more than I did. I asked Charlie who he wanted to be with...*well I'd like a new model, if your asking* This after I gave him everything!!!!!! Alas tho...as I said earlier familarity breeds comtempt, and the rugrat has moved on....So here he sits reading the board with me now....
*whats that charlie* yes twila's geese do look like alot of fun*

Now that charlie is home...he must make his appearance at starbucks...I dunno how they will greet him, after he never even sent them a postcard all these months :p

You are correct, at least mostly. There is one historian (Roman, I think) who refers to a Jewish holy man who healed people being crucified. I can't remember the historian's name and the reference is vague...it might have been Jesus or it might have been somebody else. There was also some doubt as to the veracity of the text it was found in. That's the only contemporaneous account I've ever heard of.

The reason most historians now agree that Jesus or a figure very much like him probably existed is because of inference. Usually stories of that size and power have some basis in fact. It is the same reason that many historians believe that there was likely an Arthur figure and a Merlin figure, a king who unified many tribes in ancient Britain (or possibly Germany) and a powerful Druid priest (likely in Wales), although few believe they would have existed at the same time.

Something interesting about the historical Jesus is that the Jews required their holy men to marry, so if Jesus did exist he was almost certainly married. Since the Bible makes reference to him kissing Mary Magadalene on the mouth, an act that could have gotten a single woman stoned, it would follow that she was likely his wife.

I wonder if she took marijuana for her menstrual cramps?
