Its a PST, just in another name.

tater tot demanded it as he's already planning to claw-back transfer payments and tell the provinces that they can make up the shortfall from this new pst.

Even with PST of 6% I'm still paying less for gas than you are in CGY.

I understand all of the costs, especially those related to proximity to the (refined) source, however, there is also a significant differential applied towards what the market will bear.

Case in point, occasionally, you will see that gas in Red Deer is more expensive than Calgary (and Edmonton) despite it being a 150 km closer to the refineries.

... Hell, just drive the 40 minutes from Calgary to Banff for a shocker and another 20 minutes onto Field where it's even more egregious

In the end, they are the only game in town and if'n you don't like it, well, walking is an option

You have screws loose if you don't fill at the PetrosCanada just west of Calgary and top up again in Canmore. From there I can hit Salmon Arm or Chase which are reasonable. Field, Golden, Revelstoke, Stincamous all gouge the unexpected.

Gas is roughly $0.05 more expensive at the Petrocan at the Cochrane exit on the transcanada..... No one can tell me that it costs 5 cents more per liter to deliver that load under 10 minutes out of Calgary.

The reality is that it's more expensive there 'cause they can charge that much

Gosh I thought Alberta was all about provinces cooperating with each other.

Not since Horgan decided to pretend he can form federal legislation.

In Canada they will not be able to exit with a simple majority in a referendum. Like a bunch of idiots.

Why, do you not agree with democracy? If the majority of people in one region don’t want to belong to Canada, why can’t they peacefully depart.
Um, because the separation would also create a physical separation between BC and the ROC. People traveling to or from BC would need to bring extra ID like passports just to travel through AB. Flights originating in BC or the ROC would have to advise the US govt of every passenger that boarded a flight if the flight path took it over AB, which would be a US state in your scenario.
In the case of Quebec separating, do you honestly think they were going to leave with their current borders intact? Do you really think the Fed would have permitted Quebec to cut off The Maritimes from the ROC? So why would you think they'd let it happen with BC?

In 1998 the CSC ruled on the idea of secession. Here's the short version. A province can secede from Canada if and only if its residents vote to do so AND the other provinces and territories agree to the secession. A province cannot unilaterally separate on its own.
