Not sure DB. It appears to have the same properties as lightning. Current will always look for the path of least resistance to ground. Along the way to ground a lightning bolt will branch off in many directions as if testing another path rather than the one it's currently following.

The technique he uses to capture these images is interesting. A film on a metal table....hmmm.....sounds a bit like a capacitor. A capacitor can hold a charge.

Any thoughts yourself?

The form seems to be universal irrespective of scale.
