Perhaps the most difficult thing for most of us to understand is the simple, and if you examine it directly, most obvious fact that there is no such thing as a solid, separate, stable entity that I can call "myself". Nouns (labels like writer, teacher, doctor, lawyer, man, woman, human being, body and so on), proper nouns (my name, your name), personal pronouns (I, me, mine, myself, etc.), often coupled with mental images of your face or your body at various ages, morphed together with various role models' faces or bodies, and anchored by muscular contractions and other physical-emotional sensations work collectively to create a fictitious mental version of "me" and "my life". It may be convincing on the surface, and there may be the security and comfort of habitual perception, but if you investigate carefully and directly, you will find nothing but insubstantial memory and fantasy edited by motive and attitude. Nowhere in any of that is there a real, verifiable "you" or "me". Before agreeing or disagreeing, before proceeding any further, take a few moments to check this out for yourself .Otherwise, the process of truth, the discovery of what is real, is trivialized and reduced to true believerism, or worse, a subtle contempt prior to investigation. If you assume, "I already know about that," no honest investigation or discovery can take place .So if you have the courage and integrity to check it out for yourself, you discover that everything you think about yourself (as well as other people, the world, life, and the universe) is neither accurate nor reliable. It is only the play of fragmented memory, and as such, it is amazingly limited. It is shockingly dishonest and appallingly narrow, shaped by what we like and dislike, what we want and don't want. It is hard to escape the rather obvious conclusion that all of the self images and concepts we so take for granted have no reality to them at all. So.............. ?

There is indeed a you. There is indeed a me. We are ever evolving beings, whats more we are aware of the concept of self and how this self senesces through space and time. Granted, what you said is true, we are not stable, in the sense that you or I in some time down the road are changed physically, and mentally, and the concept of the self is itself changed. The vestigal remains of the former are still with us. All self images and concepts which we do take for granted are snapshots of the you and me, at one time or another. Thus one could say that ones self only exists for an instance, replaced by a new self the next time one even attempts to bring up an image of ones self, or qualify ones self.

Keep em coming - they are terrific - in spite of the obvious jeering - which always accompanies anything new and different.

I think it's just frightening to some who prefer clear cut "What's for dinner tonight?" kind of questions.

Are there two Mikeys???

I miss the old one - the one who posted in this link - thinking that we had some fun exchanges

In reviewing much of my posting over the past weeks, it appears I have irritated you to the point of dislike at least as it appears in your messages addressed to me. I am disliked by many - but I regret creating that tension in you with my words.

I am sorry and will try to avoid interfering with your posting experience here.

So, If there is no separate you, and no separate me, then what is left? Look : in the absence of mental and emotional editing, there is nothing but awareness and everything that arises in it. Everything that you can see and hear and smell and taste and feel and think and otherwise experience. There is nothing but this, this whole, infinite, everything.

All are separate parts of a whole. Sub-classes of an existence. I am limited by poor perception of the whole. It is a human frailty. I perceive we are all part of the whole. I do indeed exist in my mind. I may not exist as I see myself. I do not exist to many others. There is no concept of me making a sound in the forest when I fell, so I don't exist to them.

Since I am replying to you, therefore you exist and become a we. We are parts of the whole, which I believe to be pure energy in the long run.
