In other news - the remarkable Doctor Jordan Peterson says he worked for two years for a United Nations Climate Agency and as a result of that he says there are NOW MORE TREES in the northern hemisphere than there were 100 years ago!!!!!!!!!!
His explanation is simple- 100 years ago we burned trees for heat and cooking but now we revere trees and municipal govts do what they can to LIMIT tree cutting!!
And of course one only has to drive around the more central parts of Ontari-owe - outside the GTA - to notice abandoned farms and overgrown fields where forests are re-establishing on land that was marginal for farming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yes- the suburbs are ever expanding in Ontari-owe - but they are being built on PREVIOUSLY CLEARED farm fields!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s a proposal that in the world of hard-nosed negotiating seems pretty reasonable. The Ford government offered to meet the union representing public high school teachers halfway on the issue of class size.
The response from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation was to walk out, end talks with a conciliator and move towards starting a strike on or close to Remembrance Day.
“The proposal that we received this morning is, in fact, worse than the Ford government’s original plan,” said OSSTF President Harvey Bischof.
(IN other words- teachers RESENT ANY Ford plan to change school operations in any way!! IN light of the two billion dollar INCREASE in the Ford education budget - with DISHONEST teachers STILL referring to the Ford budget AS A CUT - simply because it does not feed them GRAVY as fast as they FEEL they are ENTITLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Funny, I thought the proposal from Premier Doug Ford’s PC government to increase the average class size from 22 to 28 was the end of public education! Teachers and their supporters have said that if the increase goes forward, schools would be gutted.
So how can scaling that back be such a bad thing?
(There is NO logic in the education system - there is ONLY GREED!! Even LIE-beral premier Dalton McGinty recognized this when he tried to rein in teacher gravy grabs with a tighter education budget!! The teacher reaction was so VILE and so STRONG - with LIE-berals so dependant on civil service union HOG votes that McGinty was FORCED TO QUIT POLITICS - that is when Wynne-bag took over and her first act was to publicly assure teachers that her govt “would do whatever it takes to win back teacher trust”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(For Wynne-bag - earning teacher trust means throwing gravy at them until they are gorged on it and stop whining - for a while - which explains why Ontari-owe is carrying RECORD DEBT LEVELS!! Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced on Thursday — as the Ford cabinet was meeting — that the government had offered to scale back the class size increase to an average of 25 students.
“We are proposing a significant reduction in class sizes from 28 to 25 with one aim in mind that is keeping kids in class,” Lecce told reporters are Queen’s Park.
The offer had been made as provincial negotiators met with OSSTF negotiators with the help of a conciliator. Despite the presence of the conciliator and the offer to move on class size, the meeting lasted less than 45 minutes before the union walked out and announced they wanted to move towards a legal strike position.
(In other words - the union PLANNED the confrontation AND THE STRIKE!! HOGS truly believe they are entitled to bankrupt us if they want to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Lecce said the actions of the union threaten the stability that parents want this school year.
“They opted to escalate at a time and we are trying to de-escalate, get a deal and keep the parties to the table. I think the contrast could not be more clear,” Lecce said.
(Teachers are joined by cravenly coward time serving school board trustees in making trouble for Ford!! Trustees are supposed to be the employer of teachers but such is the power of teachers that trustees are simply useless hangers on in our education system!! At this time trustees are trying to blame the INCREASED FORD BUDGET for the rotten and decayed state of our schools - that have been neglected for 30 years as all school board money goes to HOG Salaries with little left for maintenance - hence the decrepit state of our schools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Indeed, it couldn’t be more clear so I’m not really sure why the province is trying to play nice and offer concessions to the teachers’ union bosses, who obviously want to play hardball and head to a strike in order to get everything they want. The union wants no movement on class size — basically a return to 22-student maximum average — and a 2% wage hike when the broader public service is getting 1% and many in the private sector are getting nothing.
(In other news - there are reports that the after tax income of many Cdns in 2019 is shrinking drastically as inflation takes its toll on employees who aint getting pay raises because their bosses are broke!! First off, on the wages, none of us should feel bad for highschool teachers. The average OSSTF member earns $92,000 a year, according to figures from the Ministry of Education. Considering the average Canadian working full-time earns between $50,000-60,000 a year, those teachers demanding more pay are already doing very well.
(Teachers will of course give us nonsense about how hard they work after hours and on weekends etc - with NO WAY to verify any of the claims!! Even worse- many teachers RETIRE on those solid gold pensions that are indexed to inflation and many teachers end up living LONGER on their pensions than they spent in the work force!! Such extreme generosity is NOT SUSTAINABLE because it is based on BORROWED MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Secondly, there are numerous studies showing class size is not tied to educational outcomes. That said, parents believe that it matters. They think smaller class sizes will help turn their kids into geniuses.

So, the province bended on what parents want and made a major concession to the union. The union’s response: Demand even larger raises — estimated to cost taxpayers a minimum of $1.5 billion in extra spending a year — while turning down the government on their class size concession.
The teachers unions in this province have claimed that under Ford, education spending has been slashed. That’s not true, it’s up.

They’ve also claimed thousands of teachers have been fired. That is also not true as more than 99% of the teachers employed last year are back, and the province created a special fund to make sure no teacher lost their jobs due to changes.

Teachers unions in this province have a history of fighting every single government no matter the party in power. They think that they are the ones who not only deserve more money from you and a better pension that most people will ever get, but also easier working conditions each year.

Roots grow to where they can get water. If the table is really deep, the plants will most likely have long roots.
Which plants? some have tap root that's true, most crops have shallow roots and go down no more than a couple of inches and rely on canopy to produce condensation when it is dry. And then it depends on seed bed preparation, and seed planting depth.
If that is true why do they wither and die out in the field? There is always water and nutrients at some depth.
Disease, lack of stuff they need, an overabundance of stuff they don't need. I made a general statement and you look for exceptions to the rule. Hardly a logical argument.
I farm as well there is always exceptions every year is different, there is reasons there are different soil zones, different planting techniques, different growing days, compatible crops to the area, different annual rainfall, etc. If it were as simple as you make it out to be there would never be a crop failure and farmers wouldn't need to leave for work to support the farm.

“We know, from years of experience, that people love polar bears and pandas, so it is easy to see how these appealing creatures have become the emblems for the topics of endangered species and what we previously termed as global warming,” Shields wrote.
“Often, when signaling environmental stories to our readers, selecting an image of a polar bear on melting ice has been the obvious – though not necessarily appropriate – choice,” she continued. “These images tell a certain story about the climate crisis but can seem remote and abstract – a problem that is not a human one, nor one that is particularly urgent.”
The idea to focus instead on pictures of Chinese with smog masks and piles of plastic trash in developing countries comes from a group called Climate Visuals, an arm of the UK Climate Outreach lobbying group.
Climate Outreach bills itself as “a team of social scientists & comms specialists passionate about helping organisations communicate climate change beyond the green bubble.”
Shields is all in.

“(Inuit knowledge) acknowledges that polar bears are exposed to the effects of climate change, but suggests that they are adaptable,” natives wrote in a proposed management plan cited by CTV News.
Inuit leaders pointed to obvious signs of increasing bear numbers, such as two Inuit who were killed by the animals in 2017, and called for reducing numbers in some areas.
“Inuit believe there are now so many bears that public safety has become a major concern,” Inuit leaders wrote. “Public safety concerns, combined with the effects of polar bears on other species, suggest that in many Nunavut communities, the polar bear may have exceeded the co-existence threshold.”
