Sitting at my laptop
Would you mind telling me how exactly depleted uranium irradiates anyone?

You know that depleted Uranium is not radioactive and is actually less dangerous than standard munitions which rely on heavy metals and toxic chemicals.

I know the word "Uranium" is scary if you don't know the science behind it, but its less radioactive than desert sand.

Its used as a radiation shield for crying out loud (in the same manner as lead used to be)

I do. Bsc Carleton University 1984

Wrong.

The missiles are S-300 surface to air missiles. They can shoot down fighter aircraft, bombers and cruise missiles. They cannot be used to attack Israel, but they do threaten Israel's ability to attack Iran.

I'll let you get educated the same way I did. Did you even watch the vid? So what is causing all the illnesses and birth defects? The numbers were over 220,000 vets with radiation caused illnesses. No telling how many birth defects.
You would send your family over to do the clean-up then?
This vid is shorter but it should answer your questions.
Blinkx Video: HOW THE US MILITARY IRRADIATES ITS OWN TROOPS (and everybody else) with Depeted Uranium Munitions

Its not irradiation for crying out loud, its from heavy metals. Depleted Uranium is still a heavy metal. Its the same as soldiers exposed to lead munitions or arsenic.

War is bad and dangerous, there are no fluffy bunny munitions..well, there were the toy shaped mines the Russian's used in Afghanistan to kill the next generation of fighters (aka innocent children).

You do know that heavy metals cause birth defects and brain issues right? Thats why we don't use lead paint on Toys (unless we are China)

Seriously, basic science about depleted Uranium.

Ok Mr. Bsc (Im guessing this is where you say chemisty nor physics is involved)

Lets look at some math.

Natural Uranium is 99.27% U-238 and 0.72% U-235.

making the enriched Uranium takes about half the U-235 out normally,

This reduces the remaining about 99.5% to 60% of its initial radioactive level.

so about 0.3% of Natural Uranium accounts for 40% of its radiation.

That makes commercial DU about 1/220th (give or take) the radiation level of enriched uranium.

Now if you work on making DU reduced even further and lower it to about 0.2 of U-235 instead of 0.4 it goes even lower. Military grade DU is less than 0.3

Thats basic math.

Sand has concentrations up to 3200+ mrad/yr
