Ok islanders name your favorite camp ground on this rock! or anybody else that has camped here....I have to pick miracle beach. Not really by choice anymore, as it has changed to much over the years, nothing but motorhomes and stuff like that mostly...now that is not camping!!!! anyway I return to this place once a year on my birthday, usually I just camp overnight...anyway here is my story about miracle beach....

This is where my dna doners concieved me. Yes it is, they have told this story since forever...they have it down to the moment. So each year I return to have cosmic union with the conception of self. Now how many people can say that? Yes I have myself a little "from here to eternity " with whom is none your business    But really strange is it not? what if I had childern? I could have concieved them on the same beach that I was concieved! the possibilties are endless...I really did a better job....ok that wraps it up...

Wow. I'm wondering if I've met any of you in person.

Well, my bio:

Grew up on the penninsula. Went to the Saanichton fair every year. Was a stable girl, farm hand for many years. Lived in downtown Victoria and in Langford.

For all the bad mouthing of Langford I have to say it was the friendliest place. Had a blast there!

yep. My daughter and I moved here about 5 yrs ago from Victoria. We were living on Fifth street just off Hillside.

Use to go to the Forge (when it was the forge) and the Rail (when it was the rail) every friday and saturday night (before the my daughter was conceived)

The rail use to have strippers in the afternoons and bands in the evenings. The forge had the "beam me up" medalions on the ceiling. Saw Lee Aarron at the forge a number of times.

G, did you ever see the gentleman who would walk around downtown Victoria carrying that big cross on his back?

don't remember the cross guy .......but there is one now who bikes it with his signs and stuff. maybe he has decided it's easier to bike it than drag it??? 8)

who knows, but yeah, we still have our fair share of eccentrics!

that whole hillside area hasn't changed too much, but we are over in vic west and that area is really changing quickly. lots of new condo's and stuff.

I still watch channel 6 news. I don't know why, but I do.

I lived in Esquimalt for a couple of years, but not vic west. closes I came to vic west was Ellery St. We lived in the "projects" on Ellery for about 6 months. Just enough time to realize.........

Langford sure has grown since we lived there. It's becoming quite the metropolis. And land prices have skyrocketed. It use to be a "cheap" alternative. lol

i know...i don't think there is anywhere 'cheap' either on the island or mainland anymore. the housing prices are crazy here. although the weather makes up for it!!

Like the "Island " a lot. Have family in Nanaimo and Victoria.

Favorite spot ......to date.....on the Island is Long Beach. Being near that vast ocean , ever so moody at times, yet so powerful and beautiful......without the Island breaking the waves. Don't see this kind of ocean from Third Beach or Spanish Banks. Absolutely LOVE the ocean.......in all forms.

What I have seen of the Island .......it is lovely.

Butchard Gardens are phenomenal. Tea at the Empress Hotel is a delight.

Tea at the Empress Hotel is a delight.

My grandmother use to take me to tea at the Empress when I was little. We'd have finger sandwhiches....yum...and then pastel mints for the way home....

hey - mom - when was the last time you were here? make sure the next time you give us a call and we can circulate for a beer or two! yeah, the ol' laural point is pretty good, arthur ericson did the water features outside and the addition, and it truly is a special place. neat to see from the water too.

Island ramblings

I can do that. Who but Vancouver Islanders, or Gulf Islanders, would have a book about plants that deer don't like? How many deer have read the damn book? I've never seen so many different kinds of mushrooms as we had on Gabriola. I got a book about "Edible Mushrooms in the Gulf Islands" and for every edible mushroom, there seemed to be another that looked exactly the same but was poison. On Gabriola when the wind got above 40kph you expected a power outage. Do the Gulf Islands use more kerosine than the rest of Canada? Had enough?
