Is there going to be enough snow for the Olympics?

Could a guy sorta throw up a shelter, live on the beach, eat seafood, and whatever washes up?? Driftwood for fuel. Sounds good.

You know, years and years ago, many draft dodgers did exactly that. Then they finally got jobs and kept hiding out in a manner of speaking. They also put some kind of squatters rights in on the large chunks of beach they had. Many of them now have homes and land worth a couple of million $ just by doing exactly what you said. Remember a few years ago when one of the USA presidents said all draft dodgers were free and would not be charged as such? Well, many of them at that point became Canadian citizens since they had been living here for years anyway and they are very wealthy people now. Beautiful homes right on the beach.

Record snow fall at Whistler. Too bad. Everyone I know was hoping for a washout of this over bloated excuse to promote products. The Olympics have become a farce with sports just being a backdrop for a commercial free for all and another reason for the rich to have another party.

We make snow on a regular basis at our hill because the chinooks take it away so fast but they cant make snow unless it's below zero.
Maybe they have something that makes snow at warmer temps.

The main reason we make it every chance we get is to keep a good packed base so it can take the chinooks a bit better.
I love skiing on it,corn snow.

Wherever did you get the idea that they need snow up there? Whistler/Blackcomb have had record snow falls this year. The Planners & groomers are estatic!

They have had record snowfalls there. Those of us who live in the coastal areas of BC know though, that much of the snow that has fallen can disappear overnight. We have not had any snow yet this year (well - we had one day where there was a bit on the ground but it melted in a few hours). It has been raining almost steady for the last few days even though the sun is shining at this very moment. It has been so mild that even at night when I turn the heat down to about 14, it is still almost too warm to sleep with covers on. It is flooding in many areas of the city where Talloola lives and apparently there is some flooding in the south part here in the city where I live. So - while there is probably still lots of snow at Whistler, it surely has been raining there as well. A popular ski area here on the Island is Mount Washington and they have been having rain. It was reported as far back as around November that there would likely be a lack of snow for the Olympics so I'm sure the snow machines are ready.
Spade: I hate to tell you that we have the most gorgous day happening right now. No snow, no rain, just beautiful sunshine. The sun is streaming through my kitchen and dining room windows. It's only 7 degrees but it's early yet.

Very much the same here in the Interior, VanIsle. Beautiful weather. I was outside early this morning and only needed a light sweater. The snow that fell last month has all but vanished from my fields and yard.

Oddly enough, it is so mild here that both my husband and I were awake half the night. I turned the heat waaay down and I had to get up and open the window wider so we could get back to sleep but it seemed to take forever for the room to cool down. We've been up about 2 hours and I still haven't turned the heat up!
In regard to Spade's post, the pictures I saw in the Vancouver Province showed much less snow on the mountain than the pictures he shows. It doesn't look good. I know we are always a tad warmer over here than they are but not that much. I was not in favour of the Olympics being held at Whistler but now that the money has been spent - I do hope they can happen. I wonder how things are at Big White in Kelowna!!!

I wonder what the snowpack in the mountains is like and if we are going to have water shortages this coming Summer. We've had lots of rain but I don't know if that contributes as much to our long term water supply. I'm sure that at least some of the rain we've had is snow at higher elevations.
