The worst president they ever had was a friend of our worst prime minister.

What does party affiliation have to do with it? By constitution, a president doesn't have that much power. Now, an individual president may try to exert more power. I lived in USA during Nixon presidency, and they used to talk of imperial presidency when referring to Nixon. But as defined by the constitution, a president does not have that much power.

Before you start passing out them Worst President bumper stickers, just remember Obama is still young at the game of presidency. Heck he still smokes even!
Don't put down Gilligan, he would have done a much better job of looking after the island than Bush did with USA. After all Gilligan had the Professor as the technical advisor (the Professor evidently was an expert on every scientific and technical subject under the sun), Who did Bush have? Dick 'Darth Vader' Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Umm, did you miss the part about the government bailout of the banks being pushed through Congress before Obama became president?
As for your comments about socialism, apparently you do not really understand what it is. Bank bailouts are not socialism. Taking over the banks, which many of them deserve, would be.
Also, trickle down economics has pretty much been a part of Republican economic doctrine. Obama has never espoused this misguided economic plan.
There's been a lot of talk about how the proposed bank bailout is somehow socialist. Senator Jim Bunning recently said that the bailout is "financial socialism," as well as just being plain old "un-American." Congressman Ron Paul has made similar statements, and some of the bloggers here at BloggingStocks have joined in the chorus as well
Now, I understand that the bailout violates the much loved principles of 'free markets' and 'democratic capitalism', but we can't let this violation muddy the meaning and history of different economic forms. In the long history of capitalism, socialism has represented an alternative that fundamentally challenges the capitalist structure of political and economic power. This bailout does no such thing.
