Is it a sin to seek knowledge?

Is it a sin to want to open one’s eyes instead of being blind?

Is it a sin to do as scriptures urge us to do?

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Gen 3:2 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:

Adam and Eve were doing exactly what we are all told by scriptures to do, yet God seemed quite upset.

Why is seeking knowledge and ignoring a vile command to remain in ignorant bliss wrong or a sin?

Are you sinning when you seek knowledge and becoming more like God?

DL

Yes.

Yes it is.

It is a symptom of a lack of faith.

If you seek knowledge, it means that you no longer trust in and have lost faith in your god.

Now, if you also happen to be looking to buy some top notch real estate in Canada, I have a terribly undervalued prospect for you. It's a quaint country estate called Moose Meadows and the old widow that owns it has no idea what it's true value really is.

Give me a call and I guarantee that I can reaffirm your faith!

Angelic being eh.

If you say so then it must be true.

That is only in my world, you can make it into anything you want.

2Pe:2:10:
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness,
and despise government.
Presumptuous are they,
selfwilled,
they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
2Pe:2:11:
Whereas angels,
which are greater in power and might,
bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
2Pe:2:12:
But these,
as natural brute beasts,
made to be taken and destroyed,
speak evil of the things that they understand not;
and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

So what you are saying is that the brighter one is, the less they will need a genocidal God.

If Adam and Eve were so stupid that they did not know they were naked, then that would be good enough to show that the God they were following wanted them stupid and they rightfully should reject that God really quickly.

it is a sin against god and humanity not to seek knowledge and truth and justice

Certainly not the Christian take but I like and agree with this.

Why do you think that this concept is so tough for Christians to get?

Hi DL, I am not Christian but many if not most of my friends were either raised as such or still are Christian. I also work in a Christian school. I was also raised as a Christian. It has been my life experience that everyone surrounding me seeks knowledge. I have met very few individuals for whom I would say "they do not seek knowledge".

I do however know people of a very narrow, limited mind set who seek knowledge for the sole purpose of reinforcing their held beliefs which may include but are not exclusively of a religious nature. I have concluded they do so out of fear.

I think we seek knowledge quite naturally and that that is how things should be.

I also agree, unfortunately, that many of our fellow men are cowards and will let the groundless fears of a lying church effect them detrimentally.

The bastard churches know they are lying and hurting their own but do not care.

I don't recognize the word 'sin', not my language.

not to learn is to do poorly in school, poorly trying to earn a living, poorly in communication with
others, and subsequently would mean that one has a disability and needs help.

hopefully others would recognize this person when very young, and direct them to the help they need.

Is that meaning you cannot sin against others or that they cannot sin against you or your loved ones?

or just thin the herd
Let's hope you are referencing the ones that caused the 'injury' rather than the ones that have been 'injured'. One choice over the other should mean morals are still intact, the other choice would mean the best hope for mankind would be a big collision with a rock from space as the 'weeding tool'.

doesn't much matter what happens to mankind really...we are all going to die and there will come a time when that will mean "everyone"

as for sin if it is just "missing the mark" we all do that, if it is anything else...it doesn't exist

I'm pretty sure most people would prefer to die in their sleep at the age of about 100.
possibly I am equally sure others would like to die right in the middle of their heart loved adventure

I too would hope so.

In the story of Eden, the reverse happened.

Seems that God is not as responsible to his children as human parents are.

Just another glitch showing how poorly we create our Gods.
