Corruption is in the eye of the beholder.
I think they are "corruptly" passing laws and re-interpreting laws to contiuously reduce the sense of autonomy or sense of "self" each individual enjoyed within our society. Without an exageration .... they are passing laws and purposely taking cases to court (weak cases), losing some trials and winning some. But, each trial sets "precedents". Each proscecution sets a standard or the ground rules for future arrests of groups or individuals.
They are practicing right now with this new legislation. The same way they did with the drug laws introduced in the 60's and 1970's.
Within 5 years they had enough drug arrests and all the court precentdents were in place. Within 5 years, drug arrests became a routine and people were simply "processed". Also; millions upon millions of Canadians were "processed" or "searched" because of "suspicion" only.
The government utilized and built a lot of prisoner space as a result of drug laws. The government broke-up alot of marriges and working relationships during these many years. Alot of bullets were fired for the drug war or during the drug wars. Alot of people got hit.
It's rather surprising how it was done for alchohol too. I remember when it was against the law for the "authorities" just to stop people randomly without having "just cause". But, word got out that a drunk driver was the worst "bogeyman" since communism. Police introduced the R.I.D.E. program and every Christmas we worhipped the authorities as they protected our children from drunk drivers.
Then they began putting R.I.D.E. patrols up for May 24th weekend. Soon it was advertised in the media that the "authorities" would be out in great numbers on highways 400 Northbound through cottage country and called it a "crack-down".
So, now they don't stop drivers "randomly" and without "just cause" .... they do it to smell your breath and see if your drinking.
Not only do they smell your breath, but they can legally search you too!
And it all started with a "drug law".
The new anti-terrorist legislation is going to be as big and as powerful of an "intrument" that the government has with drug laws.
As a search warrant was used for the drug laws, today it is the interception of every means of communication and to do so without a warrant. (Telephone/Internet.) When civil unrest breaks out, only the "chosen few" will be allowed to leave a city by plane. Nobody will leave by car. Nobody will be allowed to travel arround the country or into areas to organize protests or participate.
Our freedom of "movement" is covered under the anti-terrorism laws.
Only difference will be, they will be investigating a larger amount of people and with a different "excuse". This time they will be arresting for "public order" and will be arresting thousands of under-employed protesters.
Hundreds of war protesters are being arrested in the United States. I don't think that they are against the war in as much as they are against losing food stamps and are against the war because of the money being spent in Iraq and not for food stamps.
These protests will become larger as the U.S. economy collapses further.
Martial Law has been declared in Canada but they use the word "terrorism". These terrorist laws are much worse then the Canada War Measures Act ever thought of being.
That is the largest corruption of all.
