You've never heard of any alternatives to petroleum based plastic?

Guess he never heard of hemp oil. And that is only one of them.

Let's send you up in an airliner to 36,000 feet with windows made from hemp oil derived theoretical stuff and watch you get nervous.

You can produce plastics from all sorts of organics such as Soy and , I guess Hemp but to produce enough of them we make extensive use of petroleum derived fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and most importantly, petro powered labour to farm the stuff. There is so much petroleum content in it that you are better off using petroleum. It is as stupid and goofy as generating electricity by burning natural gas to heat hones with electric resistance. As Monty Python bizarre as all of that is, that is also official Ontario government policy. You can burn natural gas in your homes to heat them at between 80-90% efficiency but oh, the carbon! ... the carbon! ... Or you can burn the gas to turn a generator to heat a coil at 25% efficiency but all of that carbon has magically disappeared.

...into anoher set of books ...

Why is it that whenever a do-gooder looks into the future, they fail to notice our choking, out-of control fecundity and how our shear numbers are going to make the future miserable, poor and squalid?

Canada is luckier than many countries: Only half of our export revenues are tied up in resources. But we should listen to the markets: Rather than scrambling to catch a diminishing share of the oil economy’s last moments, we should start admitting that there’s nothing wrong with seeking a smarter economy.

Is Canada ready for a world awash in $0 oil? - The Globe and Mail

What is the other half made up of? We should pay no attention to the global markets and build up local oil industry, yes we should become a self contained economy as much as possible, the end is near, a smarter economy is right. The iron age made better economies than our complicated fraud. All we have to do is knit our own fuukkin socks fer fukk sake!

I don't know where you live but the average, middle class North American walks a perilous tightrope compared to where they were two generations ago (yes, I was there) Perhaps the very poorest are sonewhat better off. The very rich are collossally better off but most of us in the middle are not.

Lol

I'm the average middle class and I'm doing just fine.

You just need to get your finances in order and stop blaming the government for your problems.

That is physically impossible... Flossy has confirmed that Canada has eliminated coal.

Maybe Fording is constructing some nice public parks?... That must be it

I havn't haven't read this whole thread, just stumbling arround thiseve and what's this about Canada eliminating Coal> Have we done such a dumb thing? The idea has me absolutely militant I live in close proximity to a place where you can go outside after supper and shovel the nights fuel into yer stone basement to last the week. This means war. I belong to the burn Nova Scotia Responsibly Leftys. We should never have granted indipendance for any of you, you should all still be the frontier, empty without us. We could just shut off the lobster and you would alldie.

Coal if a gift from the God, you young people can't know what it was lijke to try and light a sprouge of combustables without a BIC the discovery of coal was one of the more important breakthroughs of the species , this planet loves CO2, you're not an organic type are you

The more CO2 we spew the bigger the trees get the more effficiently the planet is turned into a perfect garden of perpetual betterness, Betterness Centers are already spreading all over the sleeping host. Orwell surely must be summoned from his grave, doublespeak, newspeak, speakeasy, speak out of turn, speak up, yet silence is golden.

First off, you're an idiot.

Second, read the article and actually dispute the points if you've got the balls.

Third, don't be an idiot.

The dreaded reddie as predicted.

Just for one moment, I will entertain your ridiculously half-witted idea.

The east coast is fuktd because on the same day oil goes to $0, is the same day that the oil tankers stop arriving. By not building a pipeline from Western Canada to eastern Canada, Ottawa has failed to address the security of oil supply for eastern Canada.

Incidentally, the security of our oil supply is also a huge concern if market demand goes up because eastern Canada is competing for the same oil tankers as the rest of the world.

World prices, world production, and world competition and shortage. It won't matter to nova Scotia that the west has abundant oil resources because deviant self interest groups have ensured that we don't have access to it.

Our supply would be fine and we already have enough infrastructure to move that supply.

We just wouldn't make any money selling it.

That is an outright lie, or you simply don't know what you are talking about.

All natural gas and oil pipelines from Western Canada end in Ontario and Quebec — they do not extend further into eastern Canada......... Canada's wealth of energy is unevenly distributed,...... and the infrastructure available to access energy resources is also unevenly distributed across Canada........ Although energy security should be an issue in provinces like Nova Scotia, government policies are doing little to address it........ For instance, Canada is the only member of the International Energy Agency that has not established national legislation or regulations to ensure a 90-day supply of oil as specified by the International Energy Program’s oil stockholding requirements.....Energy security in Nova Scotia

For this to happen we would need a fuel source that was cheaper, more abundant and more accessible to every energy market than oil. There isn't one fuel that's best and every market uses it, but fossil fuels are practical. Oil might be cheaper as it's replaced with other things, but it wouldn't be worthless until something becomes as universally usable.

Never happen. Just another Clingon.
