Last April, Senator Edward Kennedy said the occupation of Iraq had become Bush’s “Vietnam,” a characterization Dubya took issue with. Saying such Bush declared “sends the wrong message to our troops and sends the wrong message to the enemy.”
Now this was an interesting response because in essence Bush admitted “we” lost the war in Vietnam. Most right-wingers would rather have their first and second premolars pulled without anesthetic than admit the Vietnamese decisively kick the ass of the world’s most powerful military. Instead, right-wingers like to say the United States lacked the political will to win and blame liberals and wussified anti-war hippies (who are to this day characterized as contemptuous traitors) are to blame while they assiduously avoid the word “defeat.” It really irks the right-wingers when people use the “V” word when talking about the situation in Iraq. However, the only difference between Vietnam and Iraq is that Iraq does not have a jungle and its resistance has yet to form into a unified nationalist movement.
According to a recent poll conducted by the Washington Post and ABC News ( http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewIte
m&itemID=7592 ), “42 per cent of respondents believe the U.S. is heading for the same kind of involvement in Iraq as it had in the Vietnam War.” Moreover, 64% of the respondents believe the Bushcons do not have “a clear plan for eventually withdrawing most U.S. troops from Iraq.”
It is obvious the Bushcons do not have a “plan” to withdraw troops from Iraq—and that is because they plan to keep troops there indefinitely and that is why they are building bases in the country. Most Americans are clueless about the real plan Bush and the Strausscons have in mind for the Iraqis (and the Iranians and Syrians).
I’d like to see a poll that poses the following question: “Do you believe the United States should withdraw from Iraq immediately?” I’d add to that “Do you think the United States should formally apologize and pay restitution to the Iraqi people?”
It would be interesting to see the result. Of course, the Washington Post and ABC News will never ask such questions because it would be heresy and a public relations disaster. It would give the Bushcons the opportunity to make them out to be traitors like they made Newsweek out to be.

Many would say “yes.” Millions of people around the world were screaming “America has been hit!” This was not a shout of sorrow or pity, rather a shout of joy and triumph. America has a reputation of arrogance, ignorance and domination......
