Tehran Synagogue Levelled by Israeli Bombs

Iran's Jewish community has condemned the destruction of a synagogue in Tehran following US-Israeli strikes, declaring its support for the Iranian state and denouncing attacks on both its religious sites and the country.

In a statement carried by Iran's Mehr news agency, the community said it condemned the targeting of the Rafi'-Nia synagogue in central Tehran, which it said had been destroyed, as well as wider US-Israeli attacks.

"We, the Jews of Iran, condemn the brutal attacks carried out by the American-Zionist enemy against our dear homeland and the Rafi'-Nia synagogue," the statement said, adding that the community stood "alongside the people and the system of the Islamic Republic of Iran" and would defend the country "until our last breath".

Iranian media reported earlier on Tuesday that the synagogue had been "completely destroyed" during the overnight strikes, which also killed more than a dozen people across the country.

According to the semi-official Mehr news agency, the synagogue was hit after an adjacent residential building in central Tehran was targeted, causing extensive damage to surrounding structures.

Footage from the scene showed civil defence workers searching through rubble, with Hebrew-language religious texts scattered among the debris.

Homayoun Sameh, a Jewish representative in Iran's parliament, said the attack took place during Jewish holidays and described the synagogue as an "ancient and holy" site. He said Torah scrolls had been left buried under the rubble following the strike.

The Rafi'-Nia synagogue is considered one of the main gathering places for Jews from Iran's northeastern Khorasan region.

Judaism is a legally recognised minority religion in Iran, with a community of between 8,000 and 15,000 people remaining in the country despite many emigrating following the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The community maintains around 30 synagogues, schools, and kosher facilities mostly in Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz

The strike on the synagogue came as part of a wider wave of US-Israeli attacks across Iran overnight. Iranian media reported that at least 15 people were killed, including six in the city of Pardis east of Tehran and nine in Shahriar to the west of the capital.

There were no immediate reports of casualties at the synagogue itself.

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that a “whole civilization will die tonight” while also stating Iran still has time to capitulate ahead of a deadline set for 8 p.m. EST tonight.
Trump issued the stark threat Tuesday, some 12 hours ahead of his deadline for Iran to agree to a deal that includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz or face punishing strikes.

This comes after Iran rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal and stated it wants a permanent end to the war.

It is not helpful, meanwhile, that Trump continues to vacillate between threats to bomb Iran “into the stone age” and kill “a whole civilization” – and then say, sometimes in the same news cycle, that “great progress” is being made in “active” peace talks.

With just hours to go before the U.S. president's 8 p.m. EDT (0000 GMT) deadline, Tehran was positively reviewing Pakistan's request to secure more time for diplomacy, a senior Iranian official told Reuters. The White House ‌said Trump was aware of the proposal and would respond.

Trump's extraordinary threat to destroy every bridge and power plant in Iran unless it ends the blockade of Gulf oil unnerved global leaders, rattled financial and energy markets and drew widespread condemnation, including from the head of the United Nations and Pope Leo. Some international law experts have said a widespread attack on civilian infrastructure “could” constitute a war crime.

Israeli put a hit out on Pakistani negotiators. They don't want a cease-fire.

News breaking less than an hour to Trumps self imposed deadline on Iran, etc…U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, less than two hours before his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face widespread attacks on its civilian infrastructure?

Iranian state ‌TV flashed an announcement claiming that Trump had accepted Iran's terms for ending the war, describing it as a "humiliating retreat" by the U.S. president.

Iran said talks between the U.S. and Iran would begin on Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Trump's announcement on social media represented an abrupt turnaround from earlier in the day, when Trump issued an extraordinary warning that "a whole civilization will die tonight" if his demands were not met.

The Truth is pretty much what anyone wants it to be at this point. What a freak’n gong show.

Trump said the last-minute deal, negotiated with Pakistan serving as a mediator, was subject to Iran's agreement to pause its blockade of oil and gas supplies through the strait, which typically handles about one-fifth of global oil shipments.

"This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. "The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East."

Two White House officials confirmed that Israel has also agreed to the two-week ceasefire and to suspend its bombing campaign on Iran. A few minutes after Trump's announcement, the Israeli military said that it identified missiles launched from Iran towards Israel.

With the U.S. midterm election campaign ramping up, Trump's approval ratings have hit their lowest level ever, leaving his Republican Party at risk of losing its grip on Congress. Polls show sizable majorities of Americans opposed to the war and frustrated by the rising cost of gasoline.
