The nuclear weapons issue, if reviewed, with reason, indicates quite clearly that it is in the best interest of nations to build and point them, particularly in the face of religious like intransigence on the part of the United States to consider disarming or adherance to treatys. Any nation would be well advised to develope and maintain a nuclear deterent. I suggest Canada has been lulled into a sence of security where there is none. How can we possibly believe that the worlds formost terrorist organization (USA) has Canadas best interest at heart. We've been mislead by our corporate wealth mongers. Time for a hangin. Isreal is a country of murdering lying thieves, I don't care what ill befalls them.
Damn, you had me following your every word, making sense, then poof...off you went.

Sorry beave, you lost grip again. How can you expect to be taken seriously, be respected, by followed, if you keep claiming to want to change the world for the better, then support wholesale murder?

Hi, Beaver;
I know we are getting a little off topic, but I like to answer to the
"threat" from the US. I don't think they would attack us, they know we are not a threat to them at all!
With regards to Canada's security I have always felt that the US would protect us .... out of sheer self preservation! They would never stand quietly by and let Russia or China, just as an example, take us over. No! Never!

Being eaten by the US is a weird kind of protection DL. They are the biggest threat to Canada, that's as plain as reason and logic can provide.

You think so? Why would they want to take us over? They are already getting everything they want! Under a conservative government they have an absolute eager-to-please ally!
IF they seriously want to take us over, I hope we will surrender peacefully, because we are no match to them! Perhaps that is the secret of Harpers policy... to please the Americans, so they will not eat us!!

No need for sorrow Bear, whenever you object I know with certainty that I'm still proceeding correctly, you're like a barometer for BS.

Absolutely correct beave, and you supply it in ample quantities. I'm glad you see it that way too. You know, in life, everyone is allowed to bs a lil from time to time, but you abuse the privilege.

Carry on, as you were.

``it could offer no "credible assurances" that Iran was not building a bomb.``

There goes good old Yankee logic --- somebody ought to let her know that you cannot prove a negative.

Don't forget that for a country to stand by the rule of law and all that good stuff, you'd think the whole "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" would still hold true.

Granted many in here and elsewhere will say "Oh well we didn't react in time in WWII when Hitler invaded other countries and we shouldn't make the same mistake" blah blah blah.

The big difference here is that Iran hasn't invaded any other country recently, nor have they even shown an act of war/agression in any way thus far. And anything of which someone can bring up to refute that, is all still unproven and speculative. The supplying of weapons in Iraq is greatly questionable, considdering one month the US government claims it's Iran, then the next month they claim it's Syria, like they haven't a clue that they're both different countries.

Then the whole "Oooo... but they're working on nuclear technology which they are not allowed to do under the contract they signed"

True, they did sign the treaty, but that treaty does not restrict their development for nuclear energy.... just nuclear weapons, therefore they are still practicing within their legal rights to produce nuclear energy.

But the US government wants to invoke fear into us and claim "Oh, but they could use that technology to build bombs" or "Iran is a danger to the world if they gain the knowlege to make a bomb"

Are they? No proof.... so shut up over the fear mongering over nothing.

The knowlege of making a bomb? How about you go google that knowlege, as anybody on this planet can gain the knowlege of making a nuclear bomb..... Uh-Oh! Now you gotta invade the planet and police everybody who can acess the internet..... 8O

hell, there's books in the book store on how to make one. Now we should close down all the book stores.... burn all those books, cut off the internet to everyone on the planet, and sanction the world to make sure the "Knowlege of Making a Nuclear Bomb" doesn't get out into the wrong hands.

I think the knowlege was in the wrong hands when it was first invented, but there ya go. Can't change history..... yet.

Israel is a friend of the United States..........and yes, it is a democracy, and yes, it enjoys rule of law, and yes, it is a nation dedicated to the ideals of western civilization, and yes, Israel DESERVES our support....

They Deserve our support? With their previous battles a summer or so ago, their disregard for UN watch towers, their personel, and their use of cluster bombs on civilian populated areas.... they don't deserve a bucket of crap from me until they learn to act like a nation, rather then some tyrant-nation with no regard for those at the end of their weapons.

We could point the finger at who started what and who's to blame for deaths where, but for Israel being such a great nation, with western ideology, the promotion of democracy and all that great stuff you speak of, pretty much stooping to their enemy's mentality of war and continued fighting doesn't say much about them, esspecially in the manner in which they go about their fighting.

Israel has a long way to go to meet the classifications you speak of above. I am sure the country is filled with great and intelligent people who wouldn't hurt a fly..... but so is every other nation. It is the nation as a collective and their actions which determine what and who they are in the global community, and they have a ways to go yet to "Deserve our Support"

.....and because the USA is essentually a Christian nation.....with a respect for, and a debt owed to the Jewish people.

It is not all Christian and don't forget to leave Church out of the State's affairs. Religions should have nothing to do with it.

And, believe it or not, the United States supports Israel because IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

The same reason I support Israel.

Period.

It's the right thing to do is it? Once again..... why? Because you say so, or is there some actually ligitamate reason? So far I haven't seen any ligitamate reason yet to justify some blind support cause for Israel.

Last I checked I still have the right to choose and decide for myself, and allow that opinion to affect my voting in elections and what our politicians do. I won't be suckered into some baseless guilt trip based on what someone dictates to me as the right thing to do. Present some logical reasons and I may change my position. If the above is your list of reasons, then you'll have to do a better job then that.

Iraqi insurgents shouldn't be a match for them either, so what does that tell you?

And I won't be one of those peaceful surrender-types. If I wanted to live under US rule and with US ideologies, I would be living there now.

And the IAEA has said over and over again that Iran is not in violation of the NNPT.

Therefore, it is time for Bush to put up or shut the hell up.

AKA: Unconfirmed is still unconfirmed, and anonymous sources are of couse, unconfirmable. Yet we're supposed to believe it all just like we were supposed to believe all of what went on for the Iraq invasion.

I never bought into that crap from day one.

No one will bomb Iran (if they are intelligent).

Just wait 20 years (tops) and the problem is solved.

Half the population is under 25 and are by and large westernized. They eat Doritos, drink Pepsi, listen to 50 cent and wear western fashions (even the girls despite the religious police).

Iran will be Persia again before too long.
