White male Christians are. I don't know about the papers in the US, but up here, A gay, black, French female will move ahead faster. She has so many cards to pull, it's a matter of picking the right one. Being white and male and Christian will put you to the end of the line. Especially if you say, "Yes, I go to church every week. I think it's a good idea to install solid values for our youth." Oh, oh! Freak!

Men? Meh... They are the cause of all the problems in the world. Although you do get partial consideration if you are gay and non-white.

I'm not sure exactly when things went to hell. But I'm going to lay the responsibility with television. When they started portraying men as stupid, everything went down hill. Starting with Archie Bunker, and moving on to Jack Tripper, Al Bundy, Homer Simpson, etc.

What ever happened to smart parents? Ward and June Cleaver, The Huxtables, Chas And Caroline Ingalls, Howard and Marion Cunningham, etc? Cripes, even the Bradys! It seems a lot of television families are dysfunctional. Some might say that they more accurately reflect the time, but what is said on television is readily absorbed into little minds.

We need some balance.

They say the same thing down here, yet somehow Congress, the White House, the Supreme Court, state governors and legislators, the Bar, the Bench, the boardroom, academia, and the officer corps are disproportionately filled with nominally heterosexual nominally Christian white men.

A body might think that if straight white Christian men were suffering so badly under the crushing weight of political correctness, that wouldn't be so. Yet year after year non-white unemployment is higher than white unemployment, non-white college graduate unemployment is higher than white college graduate unemployment, pay for non-whites and women in the equivalent positions is lower, and the power positions remain disproportionately in SWCM hands.

Would it be complete blasphemy to say it's because that's what most of the population wants?

Not at all. That would line up with my personal experience.

For me anyhow, the pertinent question is "how do we change the minds of most of the population?" And for me anyhow, the answer is "legal equality and moral suasion." That's to say the laws need to treat everybody with rigid equality (a task 95+% done), and after that people of good will need to point out ongoing social and economic inequalities. Obviously, the best way to point them out is to be fact-based, reasonable, and fairly gentle, but because such moral suasion is a movement, not an organization, there will be everything from wise, kind counsel to ridiculous, outraged, in-need-of-a-juice-box shrieking.

We also need to accept that racism exists (in non-whites at least as much as in whites) and understand the difference between racism (a thought or attitude) and discrimination (an action). And we need to accept the fact that it will be a long, hard road. Any society where a young man can lead his fraternity in singing

"You can hang 'em from a tree
But they'll never sign with me
There'll never be a n****r SAE!"

and then state with apparent honest conviction that he's not a racist has a long way to go.

And, just because somebody is bound to bring it up, in the four years I've been on this board I have never expressed anything but complete opposition to any sort of special program or special legal status for Indians. In my opinion all of that stuff, from reservations to special programs to legal exemptions (like tax exemptions on selling cigarettes, fuel, running casinos, etc.) has hurt and marginalized Indians.

I have a hard time understanding who reported this teacher? If she said it to another person who presumably has the same beliefs because they attend the sane church... then how did it come to the attention of the school board?? I feel like part of this story has to be missing. Either she said more than "I'll pray for you" and is underselling her role and actions, or she needs to learn her audience when offering her brand of religion to others. I highly doubt 4 words was all that was said to land her in this position.

Yeah, Christians are so oppressed in Canada.

Christians have a different standard, TB.

"And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well." (Matthew 5:40 NIV)

"The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?" (1 Corinthians 6:7 NIV)

The French female in Ontario will get ahead faster, because most francophones in Ontario are fluent in both official languages.

My post seems to have riled up the sjws in this forum heh?

Would that more nominal Christians lived up to that standard.

You know what my biggest beef with Christianity is, Motar? It's not actually the horrible abuses that surface from time to time. Any large organization is going to have bad actors, and sometimes bad policies, and be very resistant to admitting wrongs.

And that's my problem. If Christianity's record of good and bad acts is roughly the same as that of governments, corporations, movements, &c., then what good is it?

Your beef with Christianity would be valid, TB if it applied to genuine Christians. Most people are unaware of the activities of followers of Christ because their deeds are not broadcast on the evening news. They are carried out in obscure places far from the MSM camera crews.

So? Other religions, and the other organizations I referred to, also have long strings of good deeds. I don't deny the good that Christians, churches, and Christianity have done. I'm not even saying (at this point) the harms outweigh the goods. I'm just saying that the good of Christians, churches, and Christianity, compared to the bad, don't seem to be far off average for large organizations and individuals in those large organizations.

Somehow the ideal of 100% equality and fairness in society is regarded as a goal. I suggest this is impossible as, unless every human is a carbon copy like drone, we will continue perceive inequities. Race, religion, wealth and other differences divide us. The more people can focus on what we have in common, as in residents of the planet, for example, the better we could all move forward. No so much a head in the sand, but a head in the clouds outlook is what I have.

Do goals have to be achievable? Is it a bad thing that, in searching for fairness and equality, we don't achieve them, but improve on unfairness and inequality of the past?

In my lifetime a Vatican Nun could have killed the whole classroom of 'minority children' and the Pope would have personally have given her e medal. If this an example of the pendulum swinging to the extreme in the other direction?? At some point it is going to have to be considered to be 'out of control' and appropriate measures taken.

'God' is a 3 week course if you are over 30 and of sound mind, if not several lifetimes would not be enough time. 3 days and nights if you are familiar with most of the stories. Just saying there is no need to be be void in what you understand about the Bible unless it is by personal choice.

Only if you live in the real world. The current trend is to make the past (and we are in that group) so horrible of a time that that any reduction in said horror will seem like an advancement in civil rights winning the war when reality shows that oppression is still in play as the main tool used to control a group, a very large group, of people who are fed something other than the facts or they would be in revolt, plain and simple.

Northern Ontario,
What would anyone here consider a true "Christian"
One who reads the bible and goes to church every Sunday and pays tithe to the church of his choice...or......
Those who might do like I do; haven't been to church services in years, except for weddings and funerals, don't do any physical harm to man or beast...hell, I don't even blow my snow in the neighbor's yard in the winter....
