Re: the minority comment, I experienced comments and attitude against the English when I was in Quebec - nothing on the scale as what many minorities deal with, but it was enough of a taste to make me stop in my tracks and notice the experience.

My father has passed away. We have never known much about his background, strangely enough. As time goes on we're suspecting he was born in a Metis family. I mentioned this to a friend. The only thing he said was "hey cool, get your card and don't pay taxes". For the first time in my life I actually felt like the recipient of a minority comment, and it felt strange. Metis don't get all the perks the full bloods do, but who cares. There is a whole side of the family tree there to be explored. Oh unspoken, I completely acknowledge that it's a generalization. We have plenty of posters from Sask that I know don't hold these sorts of views. But hanging out in Southern Sask (Estevan, Weyburn, Fort Qu'Appelle), I encountered a TON of racism and bigotry. Much more than I've encountered here in the so called 'redneck' province.
