'kay...but whaddya call it when an atheist routinely says, "JESUS CHRIST"? Okay, admittedly, I cleaned that up a bit for the board. I'm much more prone to say "Jesus *********** ******* Christ." Am I blaspheming or possessed by satan or merely trained by helping Catholics fix agricultural equipment.

ROFLMAO!

For me, it's usually more like, "Jesus H. Christ on a popsicle stick with peanuts" or something similar. And I'm a UU Pagan. Go figure.

Come to think of it, I may have permanently borrowed that from a Catholic. It's hard to recall exactly, though.

I do what I want, when I want, with whom I want. I live by my own set of rules and there is no invisible being going to tell me to live otherwise.

People who allow God to take the credit for the good in their lives are missing out. Maybe you made your life that way and God had nothing to do with it. God didn't give you that strength, you had it already.

Live your life like there is no tomorrow. Don't live your life like someone's watching. Christ, that's sick.

If there is a God, why do I have to spend two hours a day in line at a Tim Horton's? If God provides (like the bible says) why are there millions people starving to death?

They parted the sea, I parted my hair. There we're even.

not bad !! but are ya sure "they" partedthe sea??? Or is that just fable??? ( IMHO.......it is nothing more than someone's metaphor from another era.. ----but it makes for good movies.. (and added megabucks to the likes of Charleston Heston........who is a gun toting.loving arrogant SOB in "real " life.

so there!!

what does it mean??............simple  You will burn in "hell" forever and forever and forever. Just ask the religious zealots..........and they will tell you that with such conviction, such fire in their eyes........

.............anyhow.......you were saying???

It is a WORD.........or a series of words that express a state of mind or ??? NOTHING More , nothing less. The more colorful the better the catharsis..

(the one I like is JFC. (Jesus Frichen Chr.) It seems to "say" it. .........but then to me he was a human being (not some dude endowned with supernatural powers etc--who happened to make a "political" statement that threatened the gov't at the time. So they X'd him.)

(did anyone watch the bio of Pontius Pilot last evening?? One of the better re-enactments of the era within a sensible and rational framework.)

Child abuse?

In the case of some religions, yes. Like those cultlike religions that teach people to handle snakes, or to eschew anything scientific, or that teach girls that they are lesser creatures than boys, or that they must obey men and be treated as property, or that teach people that respecting the beliefs of others different from themselves is an affront to God because they are supposed to be out converting everybody, or the ones that encourage marriages of extremely young women/girls to older men as a requirement of the religion, or those that teach that martyrdom by violently blowing up other people is the way to get to heaven... I could go on, but I trust you see my point by now.

RE: I would rather live m

I personally enjoy "F*ing Jesus F*ing Christ".

Although "Jesus H. Christ on a motorcycle" is fun too.

i don't know ocean. i once thought like you that this jesus character did exist but was just a man that perhaps was a very charismatic leader and because of other factors (such as theodosious, and paul) his name was carried on. However, after looking at what is really known of him, it seems he did not exist and the jesus of the bible is loosly based on perhaps several jesuses of the time but more certianly the NT is a remake of earlier pagan religions. The parallels to Mythraism are astounding.

We can say all religions are mythologies, it is just that some are still accepted by some people as fact while others are not.

I hear ya , loud and clear.

could never "understand" why they did not find his body.....or some remains. But then they have an "explanation" for that too........ ........one which defies logic and reason.

but then Faith based thinking/ religions have nothing to do with Logic and reason.......do they??

btw:; What does "H" stand for? .........in Frichen Jesus "H" Christ. Does anyone know how that one started.

Even Rev here believes in the concept of God. Only he believes that he is God; hence his use of the term "being able to live with himself" as the only limit to what he can do.

They told you not to eat the brown acid, dude.

You may even say that I think I am god from the way I write,

That'd be Hunter Thompson, not you. He did it like music, or at least a Tom Waits song. If you practice a lot, you might make the level of an Abba clone band.

The black kid who blows another kids head off thinks he's god.

What about the white kid who blows another kid's head off? Do you use the word "nigger" openly, or just in your head?

How do you get away with using this word on this forum, when I got censored for a totally innocent comment? Are you more privileged than the rest of us? As a Canadian, you cannot possibly know anything about the n-word. You only know what you've heard on TV or in the newspapers, don't ya?

I'd like to discuss this more if the moderators will allow it.

I personally cannot grasp the concept of God, it is far to abstract. I also do not need the thought of God watching over me to keep me in line. I use my own conscious and sense of right and wrong to do that. I don't need someone watching over me from up above, I, with the help of my family and friends, are quite capable of doing that.

To date though, I have no proof of God or an afterlife, however that being said, I, in a twisted way, hope am wrong.

You need to work on your comprehension skills, then. I trust that you can comprehend an abstract concept, such as hope? Well, then, work on it.

If you don't feel you need someone watching over you, what EVEN makes you think in the first place that you are so important that you need that much attention?

Scholars have long debated the exact nationality of Jesus. Recently, at a theological meeting in Rome, scholars had a heated debate on this subject. One by one, they offered their evidence.....

THREE PROOFS THAT JESUS WAS MEXICAN:

1. His first name was Jesus.
2. He was bilingual.
3. He was always being harassed by the authorities.

But then there were equally good arguments that.....

JESUS WAS BLACK

1. He called everybody "brother."
2. He liked Gospel.
3. He couldn't get a fair trial.

But then there were equally good arguments that.....

JESUS WAS JEWISH

1. He went into His Father's business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33.
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin, and his Mother was sure he was God.

But then there were equally good arguments that.....

JESUS WAS ITALIAN

1. He talked with his hands.
2. He had wine with every meal.
3. He used olive oil.

But then there were equally good arguments that.....

JESUS WAS A CALIFORNIAN

1. He never cut his hair.
2. He walked around barefoot.
3. He started a new religion.

But then there were equally good arguments that.....

JESUS WAS IRISH

1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

And, the most compelling evidence.....

THREE PROOFS THAT JESUS WAS A WOMAN .....

1. He had to feed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get the message across to a bunch of men who JUST DIDN'T GET IT.
3. Even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was more work for him to do.

Frito ... so nice to see your smilin' face around here again! And with such wisdom. You are definitely a man of class and distinction. ;) And you absolutely correct about Jesus. I didn't realize anyone else knew that!

hmm.. Well, never been into the "religious" side of all this.....as don't do well on myths and such. ......too much room for misinterpretation........and hostile debate.er arguement . Who needs that kind of stress?? ...........when there is enough "negativity" on this planet as it is without fighting over TALES and MYTHS.......that have come from a people we would not understand ........(and the US would probably invade) anymore than we understand each other at times.

indeed..........and yet. If the humanoid got his /her mind "together" and REALIZED that there are as many interpretations as there are humanoids that can read or listen......and then simply accept that for a fact rather than getting bent out of shape about being "right".......or dictating to others what their interpretation is.

on a personal level .......could care less if people still believed the moon is made of blue/green cheeze. That is their thing......but don't make it a mission to convert everyone to your belief system .

(but then I could write chapters on the beliefs I have heard ......and the conviction with which they were professed.....That is until they were back on their meds and the internal wiring (chemistry) got straightened out. ;-) .......believe it or not , I have met J.C. , a few of his desciples and of course the Devil himself. But these personalities/delusions subsided when they resumed their meds.

RE: I would rather live m

Is there a god? It's not relevent. If there is, he'll/she'll judge me. If there isn't, I'll just die. Am I limited by consequences? No. Do I go around doing bad things? No. Why? Instead of asking stupid questions, I looked around at the natural order of the way things work on earth. Much of this was aided by mushrooms and marijuana. I studied nature, sociology, and physics, constantly looking for the natural rules that define the universe, and the functioning systems that consist within it. By studying the systems around me, I was able to pinpoint the negatives and the positives that make or break these systems. I came to the conclusion that things that disrupt the systems around us, are the evils, as they are usually accompanied with real world consequences. The things that balance the systems, are good. When the subsystems on the Earth are balanced, the Earth is Eaden. When we abuse these systems and disrupt them, we get deserts, bad weather, Earthquakes, and volcanos, including the death and mayham that come with them. Basically, I decided that I wouldn't do anything to disrupt these systems because I don't want to live in hell. By default, I just act in good conscience or what could be considered good conscience. The only problem is that we've disrupted a whole bunch of systems and damned ourselves to hell. After we experience hell, then we'll be able to work back to Eden. The tribulation in the bible pretty much explains what happens when a bunch of systems simultaneousely collapse, and it's going to happen in within the decade without doubt. After we experience hell, the survivors will change things so that things maintain balance. By making this the life strategy and our main focus, we will never see hell again, as people would understand what leads society there and avoid it. Atleast for as long as everyone believes the history we record.

I agree Alberta's finest. It is not a matter of whether any of the mythical creators exist or existed but that they are completely irrelevant.
