I am 5'9"

I had a program that told me how many calories I could eat each day.

I exercised regularly, made sure I ate certain types of foods and eliminated other stuff.

now, I have 1 week to go and then I'll be maintaining it.

Your diet sounds good. My son has lost 68 pounds in 4 months on the local Biggest Loser program. It might be a bit more than that now. He's slowed down a little in his weight loss because - it is summer and he likes the odd beer when we go camping. He looks so different and I bet you do too. He's 6'1" and he weighed 373 when he started. He can run 4.5 km now. Before he hurt when he walked.
Keep up the good work and don't go back to bad habits.

I won't go back..

I want to stay like this.

I am surprised though at how many calories are required to be reduced in your daily diet in order to lose the weight.

I was checking out what it would be to maintain the weight.. and it went up 1,000 calories a day!

It may have gone up a 1000 but if you can do with less, why use them? There are those days that we just have to have a nice piece of cake at someone's birthday. Save up your excess calories for days like that. My son has to have certain types of food for his 3 meals in the day. No calorie counting on his diet (and I really don't agree with his diet because in the end, I think he's set up to fail) Over and above his meals he has to have a snack at certain times which is often a protein bar. Just read the calorie count on one of those! Really high. He uses Soy milk which they insist on. All well and good but he only likes the vanilla flavour (and they say it's okay) and adding the vanilla to the milk raises the calorie count considerably. I really don`t know what his diet is but it`s not the diet that they use on The Biggest Loser`s show on TV because I have their cookbook and his diet isn`t even close. If he didn`t work out so hard everyday, I don`t think he would continue to lose so much weight. He actually gets one day of rest and one work out is cardio so he just runs that day. I think you are good with what you are doing.

If I can put in my two bits worth (I've been doing this for almost 12 years) concentrate more on the exercise side of the equation to maintain your weight. (I walk between 8 and 9 km a day, a lot of it on steep terrain) Eat more or less what you want and when you feel you've overdone it a bit (one too many Big Macs) do an extra half hour of strenuous exercise. Stair climbing is excellent and that gets you away from concerning yourself about food all the time (A very boring subject) Also exercise tones the body.

If you can keep at it - we all eat junk now and again - natural cravings - waist below 36 - BMI is not always an accurate testing method -
Squeeze in the good foods for snacks and you have added years to your life. Set a stop time in the evening where you do not eat after that time - 7 or 8 pm.
I take you do not smoke?

Good advice. Both muscle and bone weigh more than fat, so it's possible to be pudgy and it not show up to much on the scale. Also another measure is how much flesh you can pinch off on your belly. 1" or less is recommended.
