You mean I was outside reading about Nazi history while the destruction of New York was cancelled?

The storm that wasn't?

What this means is that the next time they issue evacuation warnings no one will listen, and then people will die.

I understand the NY is still closed and people still have their windows taped.

If it was crying wolf, then it will backfire next time.

If people refuse to listen to the warnings whether they are justified or not in the end, does not mean that those warnings should not have been issued, IMHO. The chances of catastrophic destruction were there - officials acted as they thought best with the information they had at hand.

Right. Next time officials can just stand back and let Nature wreak her havoc and when it is over they can say that people would not have listened anyway. I am sure that will go over well.

To us here on the east coast, it's just another hurricane. Ho hum, make sure to stock up at the liquor store, in case the power goes out.

But if the forecasts are right, and NYC might get 8 inches of rain, I can see why they're worried: that's one **** of a lot of rain for a city of concrete and asphalt - no where for the water to go, except the subways.

If the power goes out... I'm marching my azz down to the pub. They have a generator there... and cold beer.

Years ago during a flood a reporter was doing a live shot in a canoe. In the middle of his report two guys walk behind him in shin deep water. The news room broke out laughing.

I keep hoping I will see Geraldo swept away in a storm surge. LOL!

Of course not, the officials would be absolutely remiss to have not issued these warnings. I wasn't my intention to imply otherwise, just a comment on human nature.

Times Square hosts impromptu hurricane hockey game
Times Square hosts impromptu hurricane hockey game - CTV News

"A group of Vancouverites played an impromptu game of street hockey in Times Square as Hurricane Irene battered New York City on Saturday night.

Video of the puck antics show groups of men and women stick handling the puck.

The images show some men braving the rain bare-chested, while others were wearing hockey jerseys, as they gleefully engaged in a mid-storm hockey session.

The bright lights on buildings surrounding the square still flickered, but one of New York City's most crowded tourist spots was an unobstructed playing area on Saturday night as the players braved heavy rain and strong winds.

The hockey players took advantage of the eerily empty square to play the men's vs. women's game in front of the Marriott hotel......."

Go figure.... when the US gets evacuated due to a natural disaster coming their way, in come the Canadians to play road hockey.
