I don't think they're holding back some miracle cure. the marginalized people have mental issues. If it were an easy fix, it'd be done. Maybe they'll see the refugees as having survived some horrible trauma and find the courage to help themselves out of their current situation. The refugees could bring hope to those who feel none here now.
Again, sound thinking, Twila but do you really think the refugees have fewer mental issues than our indigenous people? I wouldn't be at all surprised if they actually have more!
You do realize that your argument would disqualify not only every refugee Canada has ever accepted, but also every regular immigrant Canada has ever accepted. Please name a region of the earth other than Antarctica which has not been at war during the last thousand years.
You are wrong about Switzerland and Denmark, but I will concede Iceland (except during WW II) and Greenland, although in the latter's case little is known about what the aboriginal population of the region did to one another before the Scandinavians arrived and started killing them off. In any case if Canada had relied just on those four nations our immigrant population would have numbered just a few thousand.
