Beef Fondue

Probably one of the neatest ways to cook beef tenderloin. We generally do beef fondue on New Years Eve. We cook not only beef but whole fresh mushrooms, and prawns. For sauces we use Tartar Sauce, Tomato Garlic Sauce, and Bearnaise Sauce.
One good thing about beef fondue is how many people you can feed with a little bit of beef.

Fondue. Is that one of those stick meals?

Yep.

You get a cauldron of boiling oil on your table and stick your meat on a long fork, immerse in oil for a few minute, remove, don't put in your mouth yet. First you need the sauce. Put the sauce on your meat and enjoy.

I hope this clears things up.

I haven't had a fondue for over 10 years. I don't think I've really missed anything..

Is that your contribution? Why did you bother?

I haven't ever done an oil fondue in my home. My kids are too young for me to even care to try (hubby had a horrible deep fryer accident in his family, so, I'm paranoid about hot oil). What I do have, and want to use soon, is a stone with two fondue flames that go underneath, that is supposed to serve the same purpose, minus the oil.

Beef Fondue is an adult activity. You don't let young children around hot oil. Beef Fondue is something you do after the kids are in bed. We have used our Fondue burner, pot, and forks, for thirty years or more with nary a mishap.

We haven't done a fondue since my son was born a decade ago. We took him to a fondue restaurant a few months ago and he loved it, so we're going to start doing it again at home.

Ten years old is about the right age. By ten years of age most children have already burn't themselves in some way or other and they have some respect for hot things.

My son has managed to give himself three burns in the last two months. One helping make pancakes, one gooder that took off the fingerprint on one finger during a s'more making accident, and on Boxing day, he spilled a cup of hot apple cider into his lap.

Until he quits growing at such a ridiculous rate, that clumsy kid isn't getting anywhere near a fondue pot. lol.

At my house we are not too keen on open flames beneath bubbling pots of peanut oil either.
We looked around and found electrically heated fondue pots and that at least got rid of the burners.

Also in the for the sake of our cardiac systems we are experimenting with using beef and vegetable broth instead of peanut oil, not quite the same but it's just got to be healthier.

My mom was raving about doing the broth version at a friend's house not too long ago. And it has the bonus of being marginally safer if toppled than oil.

If you are afraid of toppling the fondue pot, maybe you should do your drinking after dinner. The fondue pot we have is very stable and would be very difficult to tip over in normal use.

If you are going to use broth......Why not just make soup?....
