That was tough-the Canucks just have to work harder.

Yep, very disappointing, although I think the handwriting was on the wall. Miller can only do so much and kept them in the game for 59 minutes. I was impressed with the play of several Canucks, Edler, the Sedin line, Matthias, Tanev, Burrows!

I wonder how the Sedins' speed compares to other players who have played 15 seasons!

has nothing to do with it at all, they never have been good skaters, my gosh anyone can tell you that,
it hasn't been a secret, their success is each other, their passing, their cycling, and how they
use each other, but definitely never their skating.
marion gaborik must be in about his 15th year, and he could beat the sedins up
and down the ice blindfolded, a fabulous skater when he was young, and he
hasn't lost a step, and there are others in the league as well.
ryan neugent hopkins, taylor hall, eric karlsson, mat duchene, and more, these
players can skate beautifully, fast while carrying the puck, not just speed,
but the whole package of what it takes to skate well, heads and shoulders,
hanson and mathias too.
daniel and henrik are better skaters now than they were when they started in
the nhl, something they knew and worked hard on during the summer in sweden.

that was l.a.s game all the way thru, they have lost their last two games also outshooting the opponent,
and that seemed to be getting close to happening again, but that shot by williams was amazing, and then
another one right away, too bad canucks didn't at least get a point, then they would have been tied
with them, rather than behind them in the standings.

the sedins coughed up the puck 3 times in the first period, shorty even mentioned them, but
they settled down a bit better, and worked harder, and had a better game than the past few.

burrows played well, tanev, hanson, bieksa, vrbata, a very slow close checking gAme by both teams, no speed in
this game by anyone, And miller kept his team in the game, gave them a chance, they didn't take it.

Message:Red Wings shuffle lines prior to playing Canucks

Detroit Red Wings vs. Vancouver CanucksRED WINGS (20-9-9) at CANUCKS (21-12-3)

TV: CBC, FS-D

Season series: The Detroit Red Wings benefited by reuniting forwards Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg on the top line in the first game against the Vancouver Canucks. Datsyuk scored two goals and Zetterberg extended his point streak to four games with two assists in a 5-3 win. Linden Vey led Vancouver with two goals and an assist. The game was delayed 35 minutes after power was lost at Joe Louis Arena.

Red Wings team scope: This game starts the first of two six-game road trips for Detroit, which defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-1 on Wednesday. Defenseman Jakub Kindl (elbow) practiced Friday but isn't eligible to come off injured reserve until Sunday. Coach Mike Babcock said goalie Jimmy Howard will start, but the line combinations aren't settled. Tomas Tatar moved to left wing with Datsyuk at practice, and Zetterberg was on the second line at left wing. Gustav Nyquist moved from right wing on the third line to the second line.

Canucks team scope: A 3-2 loss Thursday at home to the Los Angeles Kings ended a string of four games with at least a point for Vancouver, which is 3-1-1 in the past five. According to reports from practice Friday, forward Zack Kassian will return to the lineup; he hasn't played since Nov. 25. A healthy scratch Thursday, Kassian skated on the third line in practice. If he returns, Vey likely will be a healthy scratch for the first time since Kassian was injured. Multiple reports Friday said the Canucks put veteran forward Tom Sestito on waivers.

Good first period, score 0/0, I'd give the Canucks a slight edge in play, they killed a penalty and were in the Detroit end a lot.

i enjoyed this game very much. what a treat, after watching a game where the opponent is big, rough
and not a puck possesion team, dumps the puck in, and chases, that is the l.a. kings, doesn't mean
they Aren't good, just means the games are slower and not so exciting.

then the wings come to town, a fast, puck possession team, who plays the game the way i like it, fast
and great passing.

the canucks played fine, they had enough power plays to get the goals, as the top line will shine as
long as they get their power plays, which they did tonight.

the star of the game was ryan miller, he played a fantastic game, gave his team every chance to win,
and this time they took it.

good for henrik to get his 200th, then 201st.

glad kassian was back, he needs a few games to get going, but he looked fine, and that line with him,
mathias and richardson is so good, now that they are back together maybe they can pick it up where
they left off before he was injured.

He gave one of my comments about the Canuck game a "thumbs down", hence "red ink". Being that it was a factual statement about the first period, I thought it was kind of an ignorant thing to do. Even if I disagreed with someone's interpretation of something, I wouldn't do that. He was just leaving himself wide open to ridicule!

Oilers trounce Islanders!

yes, i watched the game, islanders didn't look very good, and the oilers are comin on, slowly, but i
see some improvement, and they have made a few player changes recently too.

the score didn't really fit the game, goals were scored in empty net, then
another one almost at the end of the game, when islander goalie wasn't
focused, seems he was just waiting for the game to end, so he could get
out of there.

looks like desjardin is putting burrows back with the sedins tonight. sedins need to get going, and so does
the second line, so A bit of a shake up with the lines could help. we know what burrows is able to do on
that line from the past, And we know that line has been useless 5 on 5 for a while now, that has to change.
i've noticed that vrbata realy isn't gelling of late on that line, he is a 'shooter', but the sedins are
not getting him the puck, and he isn't cycling with the sedins, hence no chemistry, so lets see how burrows
does, as he will cycle with them, and also use the front of the net, which vrbata doesn't really do much.

vrbata will skate on the second line with bonino, who also has shut down, and that line needs to get going.

that fourth line will miss burrows for sure, but it is more important to get the first two lines producing,
at the expense of the fourth line, hope it works.

this team can't depend on miller to win their games for them, he is going great right now, but he will have
his so so games once in a while, and they can't make the playoffs, just hoping the goalie will win the
games.

power plays and 4on4 are a treat, and also should not be depended on to win games, sometimes canucks
don't get any, or maybe one power play in a game.

5 on 5 and goalkeeping is the key to success.

:Islanders aim to bounce back against Canucks
New York Islanders vs. Vancouver CanucksISLANDERS (26-12-1) at CANUCKS (22-12-3)

TV: MSG+, SNP

Season Series: The New York Islanders return to Rogers Arena for the first time since March 10, 2014, when they scored seven goals in the third period to earn a 7-4 win against the Vancouver Canucks. Josh Bailey, Anders Lee and Frans Nielsen each had a goal and an assist, and Kyle Okposo had three assists.

Team Scope:

Islanders: New York coach Jack Capuano was less than pleased with the Islanders' effort on Sunday, when they lost 5-2 at the Edmonton Oilers. Capuano hinted after the game that changes to the lineup would be coming, which could mean the return of forward Michael Grabner, who hasn't played since Dec. 13 because of a lower-body injury. Okposo, John Tavares, Lubomir Visnovsky and Thomas Hickey were all minus-3 in the loss. "It's just unacceptable," Tavares said. "That's really the only way to describe the effort tonight. We were slow coming out and let them do some things they wanted to do. Give them some credit, but we were just slow and out-worked and just not good enough, and it starts with me." The Islanders flew to Vancouver after the game but did not practice Monday.

Canucks: Vancouver is 4-1-1 in its past six games, including a 4-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday in the second of a five-game homestand. Canucks goalie Ryan Miller had lost seven of his previous eight games against his brother, Red Wings forward Drew Miller, but the Canucks goaltender made 29 saves for the victory. At practice Monday, coach Willie Desjardins reunited forward Alexandre Burrows with Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin on the top line. "Willie talked to me about the change and it's been a while, but I'm excited," said Burrows, who has nine goals and eight assists in 32 games.

Sounds like a good plan to me. In no time at all we'll likely be referring to that line as "The Killer Line"!

Minnesota: Gopher State
NJD > Buffalo 4-1

two wins in a row! four different goal scorers for the Devils

Kudos to Patrik Elias for his 1000 career point.

All pro puck fans should hope the Devils's future along with that of the two NYC teams will go along real well as this will increase national interest in the NHL. Add to this mix the Flyers. If they can match some of the same success enjoyed by the old Broad Street bullies, media attention in the league will explode.
