Tough to play on any team where the fans don't really know the game. If you watch a game in a Canadian city, if the play comes close to the goal the noise from the crowd rises instantly with one voice like an explosion.

I don't know about Dallas so much but surely there are enough Snow birds in Phx. to fill up the arena.

the one big problem with phoenix is the location of the rink, it isn't in phoenix at all, its miles to
the south, glendale I think, they should have built it right in phoenix proper, enough people there to
make it work easily, plus snowbirds.

You know a heck of a lot more about Phx than I do, Talloola, possibly because I was never there. -:)

A few high scoring games tonight. Islanders finally got the monkey off their back, beating San Jose.....................who'd a thunk it? (Except Talloola) -:) But that's a good thing!

OILERS (11-19-3) at CANUCKS (18-10-5)

TV: CBC

Last 10: Edmonton 5-4-1; Vancouver 7-2-1

Season series: This is the second of five games between the Pacific Division rivals. The Vancouver Canucks beat the Edmonton Oilers 6-2 on Oct. 5 in their home opener.

Big story: The Canucks will try to stay perfect in December by winning the opener of a back-to-back weekend at home. Vancouver is 5-0-0 this month and has won the first three of a five-game homestand that concludes with a visit from the Boston Bruins on Saturday. The Oilers flew to Vancouver after a disappointing 4-2 home loss to the Bruins on Thursday.

Team Scope:

Oilers: Edmonton outplayed one of the NHL's top teams for most of the game Thursday, but a letdown in the last 10 minutes of the first period were more than the Oilers could overcome. Boston scored three times in less than eight minutes to take a 3-0 lead to the dressing room at the first intermission, and though the Oilers scored twice in the second period and ended up outshooting the Bruins 41-31, they came up short.

"Even in the first, I didn't think we were horrible. I thought we were a victim of circumstance a little bit," Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said. "Maybe not totally comfortable in our skin in the first, but in the second and third, obviously that's how we want to play."

Canucks: What do you do when the schedule-maker gives you a three-day break at home? If you're a Canucks rookie, you get up on stage at the team's annual Dice & Ice Benefit and sing the chorus of "I Will Remember You" with singer Sarah McLachlan. Three of the four first-year players limited themselves to the chorus, but forward Zac Dalpe, an aspiring musician, sang along with the two-time Grammy winner and acquitted himself admirably.

It was part of back-to-back days off for the Canucks before they host the Oilers on Friday and the Bruins on Saturday -- a game that marks Boston's first visit to Rogers Arena since Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.

"If I have an opportunity to give them a day or two off, especially with our schedule," coach John Tortorella said Thursday, "I'm going to give it to them."

Roberto Luongo confirmed that he will start against the Oilers.

Who's hot: David Perron has five goals and nine points in the Oilers' past five games, including both goals against the Bruins. … Luongo is 3-0-0 and has allowed four goals in his past three starts.

Injury report: Center Boyd Gordon (shoulder) and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov (head) are day-to-day for the Oilers. … The Canucks are without defenseman Alexander Edler (lower body) and forward Alexandre Burrows (broken jaw), neither of whom is close to returning.

That was a massacre, four good lines and Luongo was text book. It just could be "Katie bar the door" for Boston tomorrow night.

yep, canucks were very thorough tonight, all lines playing sharp, every line got a goal. I would

think boston will play with a bit more 'pride and fight back' than edmonton did tonight, they didn't

look sharp at all, they did play last night, but all of those young legs shouldn't be suffering from

that at all, now they have a very tough road trip, i wonder how they will manage. they need defensemen

so bad on that team, all of that talent is being wasted because the back end, and sometimes the goalkeeping

just isn't good enough.

tanev was great tonight, kassian is starting to look much better, i could go on and on, they were nice
to watch.

They are just not "in the same league" as the Canucks, if you know what I mean. I thought they played O.K. for two periods but were just plain tuckered out in the third. Canucks just have so much depth even with two star players missing.

they need at least two real good defensemen and a solid number one goalie with a solid bAck up, then
they will win their share of games.
they have lots of talent up front, and they play well together, but there is no balance between defense
And offense, i want to see them get much better, i like the team, i watch most of their games.

I watched them play boston last night, first goal was a big softy from the blue line, second and third
periods oilers played better than boston for most of the time, just couldn't tie the game, lost 4-2
after empty net goal.
they played much better than they did tonight.

PrintBRUINS (22-8-2) at CANUCKS (19-10-5)

TV: CBC, NESN

Last 10: Boston 8-2-0; Vancouver 7-2-1

Season series: The Boston Bruins are making their first trip to Rogers Arena since beating the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. It's the first of two games this season; the Canucks come to TD Garden on Feb. 4.

Big story: It's almost 2 1/2 years to the day since the Bruins last came to Vancouver and left with the Stanley Cup. The stakes on Saturday night aren't the same, but the sellout crowd will be revved up and eager for a little revenge.

Team Scope:

Bruins: Boston brings a four-game winning streak to the Pacific Northwest, including three wins on a road trip that has seen them beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.

In Edmonton, the Bruins got a lift from backup goaltender Chad Johnson, who got the start because Tuukka Rask had the flu and made 39 saves to help the Bruins hang on after grabbing a 3-0 first-period lead.

Rask is among a number of Bruins who've been battling the flu bug that's been making its way through an already-battered roster. Rask did dress as Johnson's backup in Calgary, but the Bruins had to use a college goaltender at practice because he wasn't well enough to dress.

We just have to play through it … just suck it up like we have to, and play through it," coach Claude Julien said Friday, an off-day for the team.

Canucks: Coach John Tortorella probably would have liked a night off before a game against one of the NHL's elite teams. Failing that, a 4-0 victory against the Oilers in which he was able to reduce the ice time his top-six forwards had to play in the third period might have been the next-best thing.

The Canucks didn't look past the Oilers; they limited Edmonton to 19 shots, took 40 of their own and blew the game open with three goals in the third period to win their sixth in a row.

With the Oilers in the rear-view mirror, Tortorella is trying to downplay the Bruins' first visit since they took the Cup back to Boston.

"We'll play the game hard. They'll play the game hard. We'll see what happens in 60 minutes," said Tortorella, who was coaching the New York Rangers at the time. "We respect Boston, but this is just another game in our schedule."

Who's hot: Johnson has won six of seven decisions in his backup role. Jarome Iginla has three goals in three games on this trip. ... Vancouver defenseman Jason Garrison had three assists on Friday and has one goal and seven points in the Canucks' past five games. Roberto Luongo earned his 65th career shutout by blanking the Oilers; he is 4-0-0 and has allowed four goals in his past four starts.

Injury report: Boston is without center Chris Kelly (broken right fibula), forwards Loui Eriksson (concussion) and Daniel Paille (upper body), as well as defenseman Adam McQuaid (lower body) and Dougie Hamilton (lower body). McQuaid is the only one of the group on the trip. … he Canucks are without defensemanAlexander Edler (lower body) and forward
alex burrows.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

canucks have to bring some scoring touch and their work boots, as boston has been playing well.

It just doesn't get any better than that. I wonder if Tortorella's spaz may have contributed to it. I guess the only way it could have been better if Snivelling Timmy was still in goal! -:)

Who's Boston again?

A no account team from Bean Town. I love it!

well it was definitely that beautiful goal by hanson that sparked the canucks on to a great win. lol

good game for canucks, bruins are a good team and it showed for much of the game, they play a good team
game, no superstars, just hardworking tough players.

sure canucks finally took over that game, but that is it, one game, and their goalie just came back after
a few days of the flu, so his game probably was not quite as sharp as usual, as he is a good goalie and
has been playing great this year.

luongo played great, very sharp indeed, and the whole team was 'ready' to play', with exception to the
start of the second period , but thanks to torterella they soon snapped out of that funk, and returned
to a very energetic and very entertaining brand of hockey.

they looked good.

now, on the road again.

Marchand is now like some senile guy who has nothing to offer except stories from the past. He will surely be a complete embarrassment for his family when he gets old.

First Toronto thumps Chicago then this game. Good day in Hockey Night in Canada land. The Habs even won in OT.

yeah, i felt embarrassed for marchand, if that is all he has to offer, it was pitiful, maybe he thought he
was sounding like roy when he said, "I can't hear you cause i have my 5 stanley cup rings in my ears', now
that was funny and sharp, but marchand sounded like a little baby just repeating himself, and yes, that will
someday change itself to the sounds of a senile old guy, with a huge nose, and when he is old it probably
will be twice as big, along with the ears.
I have had daydreams of daniel calling him 'out', and knocking him out with one big punch to that nose,
it is a big target, easy to hit, or was it henrik, can't remember. lol
what on earth happened to chicago tonight, that was wierd.

The Canucks have changed their game a little. For the beginning of the year, up until about 7-8 games ago, they were all forecheck, pinch and risk taking. Now they're picking those spots a little better. A bit of rope a dope going on.

yes, i agree. i also see that the lines are finally beginning to have some chemistry, and it shows, so now
these players can really dig in and know where each other are, and keep playing their best, as they know
that if they don't, torterella will yank them out in a hurry.

i give torterella lots of credit for the improvements i have seen, the team is getting better, and i imagine
sometimes that they are still with vineault, and I can't see them being at the place they are now if
that had been the case, vineault is a good coach, but lacks the passion and deep caring that torterella
gives, vineault left lots of mental preparation to the 'team leaders in the room', and didn't go in there
much, and didn't interfere, i think that was a mistake, as they need the support of the coach, and i'm
sure the team leaders just love that extra 'shove' that torterella gives.
