Yeah, but by then the damage was done...................the opponent got one point that could haunt them down the road.

I can't get too worried about that. There are over fifty games left in the season and over a hundred points for whoever wins them.

Got a good look @ Alberts on the bench during the game I was surprised @ how young he was always pictured him as an older guy-Yes glad he had a good game.

he's not as young as I thought, seems he must be 32, he looks very young. he's a new dad as well.

i like the way wiese is playing, very good skater, he has a very good junior
record, lots of goals apparantly, and I can see him working his way
to that point with canucks too, he had a good game last night, and he is
big and fearless and thinks well on the ice.

I hope he works out. He is thirty two years old and hasn't been able to stick with any NHL team so far. Vancouver got him in exchange for a third round pick from Carolina.

he is 6ft 5 in, so he can push and shove very nicely.

canucks also have frank carado, who played on the team last year in the playoffs, forget who was
injured, and he did very well, reminded me of tanev when he first came, surprised everyone, as
he was so calm and efficient, so carado will be on the canucks team sometime, probably next
season, and alberts will still be watching most of the time, unless someone is 'always' injured.

alberts has been on the team for about 3 years or so I think, and did play quite a bit at times.

Yep, he was on the team when they played Boston for the Stanley Cup.

Come playoff time it's often just one or two points separating the players from the golfers. -:)

there will be a couple of teams in the pacific division that will play decent hockey this year, who
won't make the playoffs, it will be interesting near the end as there could be, as there was last
year, a few teams juggling back n forth in and out till finally the last game is played.

if the canucks make it in by one or two points, or miss by one or two points, makes no difference,
it will be the same team either way, not awful because they didn't make it, and not great because
they did, it will be what it is, a race to the finish, in a very tough division.

You said it well, Talloola, there's greater joys in life than making the playoffs and there's greater tragedies in life than not making them, but it is frustrating to think back on a game like last nights, if you missed the playoffs by one point. Some things are meant to be, others are the result of stupidity. -:)

and we musn't think that the greatest joy is being first over all and making the playoffs, cause

something tells me that doesn't always work either. lol

when l.a. fought like tigers to make 8th spot, and did, then nothing was going to stop them, they
were well warmed up, and ready to beat anyone, and they did.

AVALANCHE (20-7-0) at CANUCKS (16-10-5)

TV: ALT, SNET-P

Last 10: Colorado 6-4-0; Vancouver 5-3-2

Season series: This is the first of three games between the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks. They won't face each other again until March 27 at Pepsi Center.

Big story: Colorado concludes its three-game trip through Western Canada at Rogers Arena with hopes of securing a second victory. Vancouver is playing the second of a five-game homestand; with three consecutive wins, the Canucks are climbing the Pacific Division standings and have moved into a tie for fourth place with the Phoenix Coyotes at 37 points.

Team Scope:

Avalanche: Colorado brushed off an 8-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday by earning a 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday. Maxime Talbot, PA Parenteau and Nathan MacKinnon scored, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 26 saves for the Avalanche, who improved to 17-0-0 when leading after two periods.

"It was very important," Giguere said. "We needed to respond the right way, show everybody that we're human, the same as anyone else. We might lose some games where we didn't play well, but we're able to bounce back the next game."

Canucks: Vancouver nearly let another blown lead on home ice turn into a loss, but Chris Higgins scored 3:41 into overtime to give the Canucks a 3-2 win against Phoenix at Rogers Arena on Friday.

Jason Garrison and Henrik Sedin scored in the second period to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead, but Antoine Vermette and David Moss scored 2:21 apart midway through a third period that saw Phoenix outshoot the Canucks 18-8.

The Canucks also blew four leads in the third period while only winning one game during a recent six-game homestand.

"We found a way to win the game, but I thought we [gave] away a point to a team we are chasing," coach John Tortorella said. "We have to get out of this situation of not finishing games because we are going nowhere until we do."

Who's hot: Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has a four-game point streak (two goals, four assists). Right wing PA Parenteau has goals in back-to-back games. … Vancouver's Daniel Sedin had two assists Friday. He has two goals and four assists in the past five games.

Injury report: Colorado defenseman Jan Hejda will miss 10-14 days with a knee strain. He sustained the injury Thursday against Edmonton. The Avalanche are also expected to be without defenseman Ryan Wilson (back) and forward Alex Tanguay (knee). …

-------------------------------------------

now this is a good test for 'how' the canucks 'finish this game', eg. third period, as avalanche is a
very young team, and will have high energy in the third period to come from behind if they need to.

yeah, thats too bad, but roy's pulling the goaltender very early was a good strategy, nothing to
lose and their team pressed a lot, was in canucks end and had chances, then got that sad goal
to ruin the shutout.

not hearing anything negative about luongo for a while, guess if there is nothing to criticize, there is
nothing to say.

he was solid, played the game well, colorado was buzzing around him a lot in this game, but
didn't get solid scoring chances, as canucks were playing the defensive side of the puck very
well tonight.

just after I gave wiese a nice complement last time, he came out tonight and made lots of mistakes,
guess i should have kept quiet, as i'm sure he read everything i had to say about him, lol

patrick roy's coaching has brought colorado to life, they have been waiting for someone with some
gumption and guts and fire to come along, and yes, 10 years of junior coaching, so he was definitely
ready for the nhl, just as with torterella the 'media' only are interested in seeing roy blow up,
but since the first of the year, he hasn't made them happy at all, just as torterella hasn't either,
poor media, they no very little about hockey, but so much about smut and gossip, and many times it
isn't even true.

Poor Lui, seemed solid but wasn't able to finish it off without at least one whiff.

Last 10: Carolina 5-4-1; Vancouver 6-2-2

Season series: This is the second of two games between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver earned a 3-2 win against the Hurricanes at PNC Arena on Dec. 1. Canucks forward Ryan Kesler had two goals.

Big story: Each team brings a win streak to Rogers Arena. The Hurricanes begin a three-game road trip having won their past three games; Vancouver made it four in a row when it earned a 3-1 victory against the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Arena on Sunday night.

Team Scope:

Hurricanes: Carolina continued its winning ways with a 5-3 victory against the San Jose Sharks at PNC Arena on Friday night. The Hurricanes rallied from a 2-0 deficit and scored four goals in the third period. Elias Lindholm, 19, had a goal and two assists to pace Carolina.

"That's the player we drafted," Muller said of Lindholm, who was the fifth player selected at the 2013 NHL Draft. "He's smart, he's got hockey sense, and he can make plays in small areas. That was a lot of fun seeing him get some results tonight, and I think that's going to be a big confidence builder."

Canucks: Vancouver has had trouble protecting leads on home ice in recent games, but that wasn't the case Sunday. Mike Santorelli scored 5:34 into the game, Ryan Kesler made it 2-0 early in the third period and Santorelli scored again with 12:43 remaining to help the Canucks build a 3-0 lead against the Avalanche. Roberto Luongo (28 saves) had his shutout bid spoiled with 7.1 seconds remaining in regulation.

Vancouver has won four straight for the second time this season.

"If you want to be successful in this league, you've got to be able to hold onto leads, and tonight we did it the right way," Santorelli said. "We wanted to come out strong and not look at the time, and that's what we did."

Who's hot: Hurricanes captain Eric Staal has a four-game point streak (one goal, four assists). Jeff Skinner has six goals and one assist in his past five games. … Canucks defenseman Jason Garrison has a four-game point streak (one goal, five assists) and Santorelli has three goals and four assists in his past six games. Kesler has five goals in his past four.

Injury report: Carolina forward Alexander Semin (concussion) is close to returning. The Hurricanes will likely be without defensemen Mike Komisarek (lower body) and Drayson Bowman (lower body), along with forward Patrick Dwyer (upper body). … Vancouver forward Jordan Schroeder (

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

carolina has been playing better of late, no pushover for anyone.

loved the way the kesler line played last night, with santorelli and higgins, they are exciting,
talented, determined and very energetic.

i thought the game had spurts of sharpness and also spurts of mediocreness, but they hung
onto that 1 goal lead, so thats good.

eddie lack had a very good game, he has a good future after he pays his dues as a backup, he
will become noticed by other teams, but hopefully he will be around when luongo either
retires or moves on, either way canucks can have him for their number one later on.

no game till friday.

Happy for Lack he played a solid game also Happy to see Malhotra skating well.

What makes me sick is the lying sniveling dumbo 'commentators' between periods parroting the management line that they have Malhotra's best interest @ heart-that is lying bull.

The reason the Canucks management gave Malhotra his release has nothing to do with his medical condition at all they're just afraid of a lawsuit and are covering their sorry asses as per SOP where lawyers are involved-a monkey could reason that out.
