At least a half dozen times this season the Canucks have fought back and won against teams that have held a lead on them in the third period. I sure would not have bet against Colorado going into the third in this last game or against the Predators in the third in the game before. Four unanswered goals in the third period last night.

very good game tonight against phoenix, canucks lost in
shoot-out, but a big battle all night, canucks looked
good for the back half of a back to back, and the last
game of this big road trip.

Raycroft played very well.

So, kudos to them, they did it just fine, and now they
will play Ottawa in G.M. place on Saturday night, then
again on Sunday in Calgary, back to back again.

score was 4-3 in shootout.

Great homecoming for canucks tonight, the fans were so excited to see them back in GM Place, signs all over the
place, and an electric atmosphere.

Canucks didn't dissapoint at all, came lout with lots of
jump, and for a change they scored the first goal, then
the second, and never looked back.

Samualsson looks good, lots of confidence, and scored another two goals to keep his goal streak going.

Burrows scored his 31st. Daniel and sami salo also scored.

Luongo only had 13 shots.

Score was 5-1.

Yeah, Calgary tomorrow, hope the guys get lots of sleep tonight, and refresh those legs, gotta go again.

There was a time when the Canucks were, if not a sure win for some teams, they were a pretty good bet for the top teams in the NHL. What the league is slowly realizing, is that the Canucks are now one of the top teams. Having a two or three goal lead on the Canucks going into the third is no longer a sure win as a few teams have found out in the last while.

That the Canucks are a possible Stanley Cup contender is no longer in doubt. There are a couple teams that have scored more goals than the Canucks over the year, and a couple teams that have allowed fewer goals against, but as a total package, the Canucks are right in there with the best.

Sometime in the next week the Canucks will clinch a play-off spot. They have about a dozen games left to play in the regular season and the team looks like it is peaking at just the right time. If I were a coach in the NHL today, there are many teams I would rather play in the play-offs than Vancouver.

It was a great game and the fact that they were up for the first home game after so long shows they are taking it all seriously.

Luongo was shaky as per his SOP but luckily Ottawa weren't all that great except for a brief flurry @ the start of the second period.

Rest is something they're not getting much of-not the guys who were in the Olympics anyway.

Bieksa looked good first game back, much more energy than
I expected, and he was solid and confident.

I was surprised they sat O'Brian and not the new guy, but
again, when I think about it, O'Brian has had to play many
more minutes for a long time than he is use to, since
two of our top D men were injured, and last
couple of games he did have a couple of 'blank' outs, so
maybe some rest will be good for him.
I like O'Brian, for a very young defenceman he has come
a long way.

Watching Washington/Chicago right now, good game, Ovetchkin
was given a 5 min. boarding penalty and game misconduct
for shoving Campbell into the boards, 'HARD', so he is
not in the lineup now, as well as Ovetchkin.

Hope chicago win.

Are you Canuck fans nervous about the fact that the David to your Goliath, the Flames are finally winning some games and look to be making a run at a playoff spot again? :p

And I laughed watching Milbury and Pierre MacGuire (on NBC) saying Ovechkin's 5-and-a-game penalty was over-reaction... Ovechkin is talented as hell but he also plays a dangerous game when he hits and this one was an example of it. I don;t think he needs a suspension for it, but a hit from behind into the boards like that should always get tossed.

Millbury always takes the 'hard ass' attitude, and tried
to say ovetchkin 'just' pushed him, well it was a push,
but when they are travelling that fast, and the boards are
right there, the momentum makes it very dangerous. Millbury
should shut his yap, he makes himself sound silly.

Ovetchkin is going to 'really' hurt someone one day, so
maybe a few majors like this one, and the few he has allready had, will make him think a little more, before
he charges into other players.

Campbell isn't a heavy weight, a beautiful skater, and very
talented and light on his feet, and ovetchkin is big and
strong as a bull, so he is the one who should take some
care, and have respect for his fellow players.

It is really all about 'respect', and a player doesn't need
a rule to tell him how hard to hit, and how high to hit,
and also notice where the boards are, when they hit.

Bring on those flames.

The game ended up 3 - 1 for the Canucks over Calgary. The Canucks went into a defensive funk in the third period and I don't think they had a shot on goal in the third but they came away with another win.

This was the back half of a back to back, so it is expected
sometimes that the latter half of the game will be a little
slow, but perhaps that was the strategy, play 'lights out'
in the first period, give everything you've got, get the
lead, so you don't have to be playing catch up in the
last period, when the legs are tiring, and they did look
tired in the last period.

The point is, it is another win, that is the key here, find
a way to win, doesn't matter how.

Good for Henrik to break Linden's assist record, and he is
also on top of the NHL in assists.

Calgary play Detroit tomorrow, then they have Colorado and
San Jose coming in, so they will be busy, they need the
wins badly, time is running out for them now, as they
are in 9th place, and have to win to make the playoffs,
as nashville won today and also colorado, who are just ahead
of them.

Yeah, I think if Calgary loses to Detroit tomorrow they may as well start shining up the golf clubs.

For all the talent the Flames have they weren't playing all that hard on the puck for most of the game-the Canucks let them back into in the third period but they still couldn't pull a Canucks-like comeback.

Brent Sutter sure is one ugly character behind the bench I wouldn't be surprised to see him replaced if Calgary tanks this season.

I notice last night that Sutter's dark green under his eyes,
matched perfectly, his dark green suit, very color co ordinated, way to go Brent.

Right now, Calgary has 77 points and they are in ninth place in the Western Conference. Detroit is sitting in eighth place, the last play-off spot, with 80 points. This means that for Calgary to make the play-offs, they have to win at least two more games than Detroit over the final 13 games in the season. Vancouver hasn't clinched a play-off spot yet but if they win four of the remaining 13 games it will take a miracle for Calgary to catch them.

Calgary are also watching nashville, who might be the actual
team that calgary will hope to pass, as the general outlook
is that detroit will pass nashville, and nashville has to
hang on to that 8th spot. we'll see.

I think Calgary should just shine up the golf clubs and never mind about Detroit or Nashville. One thing has me curious- by my calculations Edmonton has been mathematically eliminated - do you agree? The standings on ESPN do not indicate that and in past years they've always shown who's clinched and who's been eliminated - now I'm beginning to doubt my own sanity.

If by some miracle Calgary wins all their remaining games they would have a hundred and four points so as yet nothing has been decided. If they lose another three games and the teams ahead of them win, Calgary is toast...
