On a night where Mattias Ohlund became the all-time points leader by a Canucks defencemen, it seemed appropriate that the player many consider as Ohlund’s heir apparent on the Canucks’ blue line in Alexander Edler also notched a personal milestone. With his goal against the Avalanche on Sunday, the same tally which gave Ohlund the record, the 22-year old Edler established a new single-season career-high with nine goals surpassing the eight he had in 2007.08 in his first full NHL season. It was also the fifth power play marker of the season for the 6’3”, 220 lbs. defenceman tying him with Kevin Bieksa and Sami Salo for the team lead among rearguards for most power play goals this season.

The Ostersund, Sweden native, who had previously already surpassed his single-season career-high point totals, will be looking to add to his numbers tonight when he faces the Dallas Stars for the third time this season. He is still in search for his first point of the season versus the Stars as well as his first career goal against Dallas. In seven career meetings against the Stars, Edler has recorded two assists and four penalty minutes.

Dallas has key injuries, BUT they are still hanging around, able to make
the playoffs, so they are not lying down just because they don't have
major players, who are their stars, so Canucks have to work hard for the
full 60 minutes, as Dallas check very closely, defensively very responsible,
and won't give much room to do a lot of skating, remember the playoffs
two years ago, canucks and dallas played the same game, low scoring
games, lots of defense, and great goalkeeping.
All the chit chat in the last few days regarding luongo's poor play, out of
the net, and now we have the 'opposite' coming to general motors place
tonight, with Turco, who is the best puck handling goalie in the NHL, but
maybe tonight he will 'screw' up, (we hope).

Yep, pretty good game Talloola, although I get a little nervous when they are two men short and the opposition pulls the goalie, but they survived it. St. Louis shouldn't be a problem. They must be very close to clinching a playoff berth by now I would think. Do they have anymore games against Calgary? If they could whoop them once or twice, it would give them great confidence for the playoffs. I would imagine before the first round is over they are going to HAVE to handle either Cgy. Detroit or S.J. Not a pleasant prospect.

That fourth goal was a work of art.

A lot of Vancouver teams might have given up when Dallas got within one goal. This team kept on playing and that fourth goal took the wind right out of Dallas.
Vancouver has some potential "superstars". I don't know if the Canucks can win a cup yet, but they are getting close. I can see them getting to the third round in the playoffs but further???? We'll see...;-):smile:

It's pretty safe now to actually say that we are 'in' the playoffs, now it's getting
through the first round, and if they can do that, then anything can happen,
cause then it's all about momentum and confidence, and 'no' injuries.

I believe we have one more game against Calgary. St. Louis is playing very well,
and trying to make playoffs, so their games are desperate right now, we must
beware of those teams. The way canucks are playing right now, they aren't
afraid to play 'any team' at any time, their confidence is high, luongo is
playing well, and will get better.
Just don't want to see any injuries, yanik hannson will be back in a few days,
so I wonder who he will bump off of the team. The new defenceman they
acquired a couple of weeks ago can't even get in the lineup, as all defencemen
are solid right now, and vineault doesn't want to upset 'anything' while they
are winning.

For the Canucks…

After recording his first point in 13 games, Mason Raymond can only hope his effort on Tuesday was a sign of things to come for the struggling sophomore. The 6’0”, 182 lbs. left winger, who at one time earlier in the season was one of Vancouver’s most offensively consistent players, picked up his point with a pretty feed on a tic-tac-toe play to set up Steve Bernier late in the third period against the Stars. It was just the second point in the last 24 games for the 23-year old Raymond. The point was also his 21st of the season which matches his total output from last season although it took him 16 more games played to reach the mark. Last season, he managed to hit the 21-point mark in his 46th game played.

The Cochrane, Alberta native is still in search of his first goal since December 26th against the Oilers. He has been playing some better hockey of late, adding penalty killing duties to his list of tasks. His 14:02 of ice-time on Tuesday was the most he has had since mid-January. He will be looking for his first career point against the Blues when he faces them for the third time this season. In four previous career games versus St. Louis, Raymond has zero points and eight shots on goal to go with a minus-six rating.

Last game before they head out on a 6 game road trip. Demitra is doubtfull for tonight, so if he doesn't play pyatt will fill his spot, and
hannson will fill pyatt's place.
Would be nice to leave for the road trip on a win, so hopefully they can
do this one more time and make it 11 in a row at home.
Don't ever sell st. louis short, they are one of the best teams of late to
come into gen. motors place, very well coached, and they are on a run
of their own right now, and can make the playoffs with consecutive wins
right now.

upset the chemistry too much, pyatt must play as well as he has last two
games, and we don't know how rusty hannson will be, but at least he has
been able to skate and keep his legs going through this, as it was a hand injury.

well, I had trouble getting the first post to 'leave', so I hit preview so I wouldn't
lose it, waited, then hit send again, and sometimes when I do that it tells me
that I have double posted, but it didn't do that this time, so I haven't got a clue
now why it allowed a double post, however no harm done.

Good win for canucks tonight, tough game till 'THE MAN' burrows broke it open and
scored the first goal, mason raymond broke out of his slump with a nice goal set
up by Kesler, and Henrik sedin scored on a nice pass from his brother from behind
the net.
Very disciplined game by both teams, low shots for canucks for first half of game,
but they did have a few penalties, and st. louis is very well coached and has a
very good system and lots of good young players.
Eleven in a row at home for canucks now, and we won't see them at home for
awhile, they will be on the road.

Willie Mitchell has probably never been described as an offensive catalyst, but this season the numbers simply don’t lie. Normally a stay-at-home defenceman, the 31-year old has not only set new career-highs in goals (3) and points (21) but, following Thursday night’s plus-two outing against the Blues, Mitchell now also sits at a staggering plus-30 overall on the season. The 6’3”, 210 lbs. blue-liner has gone 22 consecutive games with an even-rating or better in the plus-minus column. Excluding statistics from games played on Friday, Mitchell is in a fifth-place tie overall in the league for highest plus-minus rating while he sits in just second place behind Boston’s Dennis Wideman’s plus-32 for the best plus-minus rating for a defenceman overall this season.

While the Port McNeill, BC native will continue to concentrate on his primary task of keeping the puck out of his net, he probably wouldn’t mind if he could find some of his offensive magic he had earlier in the season. Mitchell has not scored in 27 games since a two-goal night against the Blues back on January 9th. He also has not had a shot on goal in his last five straight games – his longest shot drought of the season. In 29 career games against the Coyotes, Mitchell has recorded three assists and 55 penalty minutes.

A very young and very talented team, not sure why they haven't done better
this season.

Wierd game tonight, just one of those to write off, and move on, but a good lesson for canucks, so they can be humbled a little, and get back to work. They
had to lose one soon, so there it is.
Luongo let in one easy one, that's for sure, Jovo's goal was a great shot, just inside
the post, then too many penalties which caused power play goals, then that wierd
one on the penalty delay call, have never seen that before, neither has vineault.
One of their goals went in off of Ohlund's foot.
Sedin's coughed up the puck twice, which cost us, too loose with their passes.
I don't blame O'brian for the wierd goal, it was a sedin bad pass to start that problem.
Phoenix is out of the playoffs, so they have 'no' pressure 'at all' on them, very loose,
very young, very fast, lots of energy, and their goalie played very well, but I was
glad 'our MAN Burrows' took away their shut out, at least that was something good
that happened for canucks.
If Phoenix was fighting for a playoff spot, they wouldn't have played so loose
and worry free, that makes a big difference.

They play their next game on the 24th, I think.

What happened last night happens to every team in the league at some point. Currently the Canucks have the best record (tied with Detroit) in the league and their road record for the year is well over .500. The way I see it the Canucks at this point are a serious contender for the Stanley Cup.

That's a complete 'about' turn juan, and I would only agree with you if they
lose many more games.Their record has been stellar, and for many games,
it is a team game, and they have won even with luongo making the 'odd' mistake,
and it's not as though he has gone out there and stunk the place out, even
with his odd mistake, he has made many outstanding saves that many other
goalies would not have.

You're generalizing too much, after only one slip up in many, they are not
inconsistent, that many wins with only two losses up to that point, is very
consistent), they are not playing with themselves out there, there is another team trying to win too. Our defense is probably among the top 3 defenses in NHL, but not last night, and
even detroit had two 'big' losses a couple of weeks ago, gave up about 17 goals
in 2 games.
Those games have to be sifted through to see how the loss started, which I
did, and also how the team approached the game, which I did, and each player
who had lapses, and what happened from those lapses, and some of the goals
that went in 'wierd'.
We had quite a few shots, and their goalie played very well, stopped almost
everything, he was first star and deserved it, there was many shots that I
could see were labelled, and he came up with the save, so, credit to him for
that, he hasn't played well much of this season, but he did last night.

Because Phoenix won't make the playoffs, doesn't put them in some other
catagory, as though they are a poor team, they are not.

The speed of those young players is awsome, that much youth on a team, and
'NO PRESSURE', at all, and that kind of speed, was fun to watch, and as I
stated earlier, if they were in a position where that game last night was very
important to them, and meant, 'in or out of the playoffs', they wouldn't have been so
relaxed and carefree.

They showed phoenix coming out of their dressing room, toward the ice before
the game, laughing and light hearted, having fun, they would not have been
doing that if it were a 'mean something' game', and as you coached hockey,
you should understand that side of the game, what's between the ears is very
important, and makes up at least 50% of the success or failure.

We play Dallas then St. Louis, both will be difficult games, just as they were
last week, but we will be in their rinks now, so we'll see how it goes.
I like the team to lose at least one game in every 4-6, so many wins in a row
is good for playoffs, but can't be kept up in regular play, and teams have to
be put in their place every once in a while, smartens them up.
I still don't want canucks to pass calgary, cause I think whatever team plays
columbus in the first round will lose.

'What' teams are matched up with 'who', makes a big difference, and if Calgary
plays Columbus in the first round, I think that is the end of Calgary.
