Yeah, and getting scored on 20 seconds from the end of the period sure didn't help nor did Minnie's goalie.

it was very irritating when they got that penalty because there was a big pushing/shoving match over nothing,
because heatley didn't do enough to daniel to cause all of that, gave them a power play, then the goal.

I must also mention kesler's stupid move he did against clutterbuck. That was deliberate and bush league.

If that had been done to him by clutterbuck, all of canuck's nation would be screaming all day today.

That kind of play takes much of the class he has been able to gather over the past two years, and reduces
him to the immature player he use to be, and he also must 'stop' constantly pleading to the officials for penalties, also looks bush league and will never help his
cause, even if he is right occasionally, doesn't matter, just play and keep your
mouth shut.

I'm sure that is why some calls are ignored, as the officials choose to turn a
blind eye when a player does something illegal to him, they are sick of seeing him
stretching his arms out, pleading, with the little pout on his face.

I'm so glad he was not given the 'C' as he still isn't intelligent enough to
lead this team.

A low hit like that could have taken clutterbuck's knee out, then kesler would have a suspension on his
hand.

CANUCKS (43-21-8) at BLACKHAWKS (41-25-8)

TV: TSN; CSN-Chicago (HD)

Last 10: Vancouver 3-5-2; Chicago 8-1-1

Season Series: It's the fourth and final meeting between two teams that have become major rivals after meeting in each of the last three postseasons. The Canucks have won two of the first three, including a 6-2 win on Nov. 6 in their first visit to the United Center.

Big Story: While the Hawks have been playing some of their best hockey of the season, the Canucks are staggering to the finish line. They won only three times during a seven-game homestand and began a four-game trip with a 2-0 loss at Minnesota on Monday. Chicago has won four in a row and is just two points out of fourth place in the West.

Team Scope:

Canucks: Vancouver is all but assured of repeating as Northwest Division champion, but the Canucks have dropped five of their last seven and haven't shown a lot of life in many of those games.

"We're always looking for wins," said captain Henrik Sedin, who has a team-leading 70 points but no goals and four assists in his last 11 games. "It's about playing our game and trusting that our system is going to win us games and not individual efforts."

Blackhawks: In contrast to the Canucks, the Hawks are peaking at the right time. They dominated the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Tuesday, scoring three times before the game with nine minutes old and adding a pair of power-play goals for a 5-1 win.

"We're going good right now, but we've learned a lot this year so far," said defenseman Duncan Keith, who finished with four assists. "The one thing we've learned is we're not going to take anything for granted. We're playing better, but we know there's still more there that we need to get better at. We're happy about our starts lately and that's been a key in our last three games."

Who's Hot: Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford has won his last four decisions, including a 24-save victory in Columbus. Forward Patrick Sharp has six goals and seven assists in his last nine games,

Injury Report: Vancouver is without forward Andrew Ebbett (broken collarbone) until next month. Defenseman Keith Ballard (concussion) is gone for the season. … The Hawks are still without captain Jonathan Toews, who will miss his 15th straight game with an upper-body injury believed to be concussion-related. The Hawks are 9-4-1 without him, including 9-1-1 in their last 11 games. Defenseman Steve Montador (upper body) is day-to-day, while Daniel Carcillo (lower body) is out for the season and Sami Lepisto (lower body) is out indefinitely.

Stat Pack: Roberto Luongo, who's expected to play for Vancouver after sitting out two games, is 0-3-0 with a 5.28 goals-against average over his last four starts. … The Canucks have been outscored 26-17 while losing five of their last seven games.

Puck Drop: About the only thing that went wrong for the Hawks in their demolition of the Blue Jackets was that Columbus forward Rick Nash scored in the third period, denying Crawford what would have been the Hawks' first shutout of the season -- Chicago is the only team without at least one shutout.

"It'd be nice once in a while," Crawford said with a laugh when asked about getting a shutout. "Whatever. We're more worried about two points -- but it'd be nice once in a while."

big game tonight, and that will certainly get the attention of the canucks, who
haven't really been paying attention of late, and seem to be slowly skating
toward playoffs in a bit of a coma.
I don't agree with giving their all at this time of year, as playoff type of play
right now can bring on injuries, blocking too many shotsw can injure, and
depleting one of too much energy can cause fatigue, and canucks are showing
those symptoms big time, and the canuck nation is squirming and whining again.

Higgins will be on the 3rd line tonight, raymond is back in, and on the 2nd line.
Luongo is in goal.

not sure why that change, I have been thinking that, maybe vineault is just doing
this to keep them interested, as they come into each game with changes in the
lineup, which can stop them from really tanking it before playoffs, as they never
know just who will be playing with who, good strategy? maybe, can't hurt.

I know higgins is a very good player, but on that second line, it seems that booth
and kesler are finding each other, but I have noticed higgins being left out of
plays. Neither booth or kesler are much for passing, they both have a nose for the
net, and that is good, they need players like that, and good on them, but higgins
also has a good scoring touch, so maybe on the third line, he can be 'the guy', and
get chances to score once in a while, 'just a thought'.

Tonight Daniel Sedin got a pretty hard elbow to the mouth. He went back to the bench and later he left the game. I think Keith was the Chicago player who rang his bell. It wasn't one of these elbows that could have been an accident. The guy lined up the elbow and dealt
a deliberate head shot. I will be very disappointed if a good suspension doesn't follow.
The best player on the Canucks tonight was Raymond. He had lots of chances and a few shots but no puck luck.

Yes, raymond had a great game, could have had multiple goals, good shots, dangerous shots, and he skated
miles, and between he, kesler and booth, he was far more visible in the play all game.

I'm sure there will be a suspension to keith, they also showed daniels hit on keith just previous to that
hit, not an elbow, a body check, where his shoulder came into contact with keith's head, not a predatory
hit, didn't target his elbow or shoulder to the head, and keith had the puck, daniel didn't.
Keith had no intention of making a hockey play, just went for daniels head with his elbow stuck out, a
textbook elbowing infraction.

Too bad they lost, thems the breaks, either team could have scored the winning goal.
With the exception of all the dancing and lying around on the ice tonight, and face
washing and punching, I enjoyed the canucks tonight.

Luongo had a great game, winning goal was not his fault, puck redirected in off of
shaw's leg or stick.

I think shane doan got a 3 game suspension for a very similar elbowing infraction
two nights ago.

Around ten or twelve games ago the increasing laxity on the part of the referees had been quite noticable. I've never understood why so many things are let go during the lead up to the play-offs and during the play-offs. How does a player get away with an obvious infraction
that injures another player? Keith should have been thrown out of the game last night. Instead, he got two minutes for elbowing. All the talk about head shots was just that. a lot of talk.

Yes, the officiating has been different, and noticed by many teams, and everyone's power plays have been
down noticeably.

Yes Duncan Keith should have been given a 5 min major and a game misconduct, and that also would have
given canucks a 5 minute power play, but after canucks mopped up keith a few times after the incident,
I think he wished he would have been given a game misconduct.
He was face washed, punched, squished, targeted and the canucks got him a few times.

I don't know why the officiating changes, I guess it comes from the top office in the NHL, and some
things that were penalties all season were being ignored.

Shanahan will deal with keith, he has a phone hearing tomorrow, and his punishment will be administered,
probably about 3 games im assuming.

It is really no penalty if he is suspended, he gets to rest before playoffs, and someone said on team
1040 that he should be made to play every game, all of the game as punishment. lol

But they do get fined as well, and don't get paid for each game they have to sit out.

But they do get fined as well, and don't get paid for each game they have to sit out.

its been laughs and wonderment listening to team 1040 today after the messy game last night in chicago.

many of the canuck fans are mad because their team didn't have enough pushback for what happened.

In chicago, their media called canucks horrible because of all the awful things they did to their team.

Some still call in and whine about the hodgson trade, and say that he could make the difference, and
it was a bad trade. (of course they don't acknowledge that hodgson and his entourage asked for a trade.)
Hodgson got his first two goals last night in buffalo, so that riled up people again, to me this is
unbelievable, what do they suggest gillis had done, make him stay irrespective of knowing he was not satisfied
with his ice time, no for me that is unacceptable, if a player does not want to stay, cut him loose, and
move on.
He should have paid his dues, his turn would have come, (if he earned it over time), then he would have
moved up the lineup and become the 2nd line center, or even the 1st, would depend on his play and also
on what other players were doing.

I see daniel is being flown home today to see a specialist and evaluate his problems from the hit.

Some say that if daniel had of been given a penalty for his hit on keith, none of what happened would
have happened, I don't believe that, as when daniel came out of the box, keith would still have wanted
to even up, but as it turned out, the evening-up was way over the top, not very even at all.

Don't know who is playing with henrik on the first line tonight.

LIVE ON SNET-P(HD) Radio: 1040 Canucks Thu 22/03/2012 5:30 PM Stars Canucks

Date Vis/Home Final
6 Mar 2012 DAL@VAN DAL, 5 - 2
26 Feb 2012 VAN@DAL DAL, 3 - 2
Despite struggling in recent weeks, the Vancouver Canucks still hold a comfortable lead atop the Northwest Division.

They may struggle even more if they're forced to play without Daniel Sedin.

With Sedin's status uncertain, the Canucks will try to cool off the surging Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Thursday night.

Vancouver (43-21-9) has stumbled to a 3-5-3 mark since Feb. 26, but still has a comfortable 10-point cushion over Colorado in the Northwest and trails St. Louis by five points for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Now, the Canucks may have other concerns. Sedin, who has a team-high 30 goals, left Wednesday's 2-1 overtime loss at Chicago after taking an elbow to the head in the first period.

"Everybody saw the head shot there, so (Sedin will be) re-evaluated (Thursday) and I'll know more from there," coach Alain Vigneault said.

Vigneault called the hit a "deliberate, principal point of contact, everything you're trying to take out of the game."

The Canucks, who have lost four of five (1-3-1), got off to a promising start against the Blackhawks after Jannik Hansen scored 27 seconds in, but Chicago tied the game early in the second period and scored the winner 2:42 into the extra session.

Vancouver likely can't afford to be without Sedin for too long. Even with him, the Canucks have scored two or fewer goals eight times in their last 12 games.

They are also receiving inconsistent play in net from Roberto Luongo, who suffered his fourth straight loss Wednesday. He has given up 17 goals in five starts since his last win March 1.

Luongo has lost both of his starts against the Stars this season, giving up seven goals on 56 shots.

With Luongo slumping, Vancouver could turn Thursday to Cory Schneider, who is 2-1-0 with a 1.35 lifetime goals-against average versus the Stars, with all three starts coming in Dallas.

Whomever starts in net will face a strong Dallas team. The Stars (40-28-5) are 11-2-1 in their last 14, and with just a one-point lead over Los Angeles and Phoenix in the competitive Pacific, each game looms large for them. Though they currently hold the third seed in the conference, if they fell behind both the Kings and Coyotes they'd be out of a playoff spot.

Dallas avoided a third straight loss Tuesday thanks to a 4-3 shootout win at over the visiting Coyotes. Mike Ribeiro, who also had three assists, scored the only goal of the tiebreaker after the Stars failed to protect a 3-1 lead in regulation.

Michael Ryder had two goals and an assist during regulation while Loui Eriksson added a goal and two assists.

Dallas has won both meetings with the Canucks this season including a 5-2 victory in Vancouver on March 6, but won't take the Northwest leaders lightly.

"We're going to have to be sharp and a lot cleaner than we were against Phoenix," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. "For Phoenix not being known as a heavy scoring team, they capitalized on what we gave them. If we do the same thing to Vancouver, they'll do the same thing."

Stars left wing Jamie Benn expects to play after he took an elbow to the head from the Coyotes' Shane Doan on Tuesday, earning Doan a three-game suspension from the NHL.

"Everyone's looking to get into the playoffs and they are keying on guys to shut them down," Benn, who is tied for second on the team with 57 points, said Wednesday. "I had an X on my back last night, but I'll take that if they're going to leave our top line alone."

Backup Richard Bachman started the win over Vancouver earlier this month, but Kari Lehtonen has started the last two games for the Stars and had 27 saves through overtime Tuesday. Then again, Lehtonen has had a tough time versus the Canucks in his career, losing five of seven starts with a 3.79 GAA.

That's the boys. Actually Dallas didn't really have much of a chance, just that flukey one in the third. The Canucks outskated them badly. Good thing Daniel wasn't on the ice or the score could have been 5 or 6 to 1.

This is just my opinion but I thought the Canucks and Schneider won in spite of the stupid referee . The penalty shot he called was invisible to anyone else. Schneider made some stops early on that kept the Canucks in the game. Schneider made a little mis-q that cost us a goal but the saves he made, made up for it. The Canucks skated all around the Stars but they weren't exactly filling the dallas net with pucks.

yes, nice win tonight, for a back to back, and tired skaters, with exception to schneider and malhotra.

the team played smart, looked focused and determined.

robiero sure lost his cool a few times, he seemed very frustrated, then schneider stoned him on the
penalty shot.
and yes, it was a borderline call, the stick just tapped him, not hooking at all.
but, now after the fact, i'm glad they got the shot, as schneider got a chance
to make robiero look foolish.

raymond scored from a beautiful pass from henrik, then another from bieksa, nice goals.

i liked kassian again, he's starting to look more comfortable, he's becoming one of the guys
now, and has confidence in himself, and we will see him pot the odd goal once in a while too.

tanev is such a bright spot on the team, what a smart cool thinking defenceman, a great aquisition
for the canucks, for a player who wasn't even drafted, how lucky canucks are to have him.

if colorado and calgary both lose, canucks will clinch playoff spot.

colorado sat. evening
