HIV-positive Alabama pastor admits sex with parishioners: Reports

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A veteran Alabama pastor who confessed to having sex with parishioners on church grounds while HIV-positive has defied attempts to remove him from his post, media reported on Friday.
Pastor Juan McFarland's revelations, made in a series of confessions from the pulpit last month, rocked the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, where he ministered for more than 20 years, the Alabama Media Group reported.
In September, McFarland revealed from the pulpit that he had full-blown AIDS and had previously had sex with parishioners without telling them about his HIV status, which he had long kept secret from church leaders, WSFA-TV reported separately.
He also admitted to illegal drug use and to using church funds for personal purposes, Alabama Media Group said, citing parishioners.
On Sunday, parishioners voted 80-2 to dismiss McFarland, although he still had access to the building and controlled the church's bank account as of Thursday, the news group added, citing a former church official.
In addition to his role as pastor, McFarland served in a leadership role at the Alabama Middle District Missionary Baptist Association, which represents 34 nearby churches. The association did not respond to messages seeking comment.
Patricia Todd, executive director of AIDS Alabama, encouraged those who have had sex with the pastor to get tested for HIV and said the incident underscores that the disease is not confined to particular segments of the population.
"No one would have a suspected a pastor," Todd said.
McFarland and the church could not be immediately reached for comment.

So even with a supposedly god given moral compass he can't figure out what he should and shouldn't do? I wonder if he blames satan for tempting him...rather then blame himself for choosing...

I hear he's secretly funding radical ladderism.

No, thats Obama. He was born in Ladderstan.

When you think you are working for a god you probably get an inflated idea on what you can do and get away with.

His only crime was a strong faith in God that God would not allow his disease to infect his partners. God was surely tested by him several times.

His real crime was stupidity. There is unlimited information EVERY where on everything. He choose to NOT educate himself. He freely gave up his control but he is still responsible.

Have you considered how many pastors may have committed the same indiscretions but did not end in a loss of faith. Th pastors personal hygiene might have been the contributing factor and not his strong faith.

I'm not following. I wouldn't expect aids would cause a pastor to loose faith.

He was certainly trying to climb the sexual ladder of selective choice.
We have a full blown scandal about a preacher with full blown aids
having sex with parishioners and someone comes up with a Bible
quote about secrets.
The church cannot be at fault here, They did not know until what was
behind door number three was revealed. They did take action they
voted to fire him and the fact is there is sometimes a lag time between
the firing and action taken in institutional situations especially in a
litigation society.

He can defy them all he wants, but they need to change the locks so he can't enter (he has lost the privilege of being the pastor there) the church, and they definitely needs to block his access to church funds. With all the other despicable actions he has done, it wouldn't surprise me that dipping his hands in the till would be another. What a scumwad.

Maybe women parishioners should be taught they are there to serve God and not the pastor. This might appear like a small oversight that they were not informed. But we can see why it is not too wise to assume women know what is in their best interest especially in matters of morality and fidelity to God or husbands or partners.
