Environment Minister McKenna blasts provincial Tories for scrapping carbon tax

'You have to mitigate climate change and you have to be ambitious about that,' she says

As Alberta Premier Jason Kenney pushes forward with a plan to scrap the province's carbon tax, federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says he shouldn't ignore climate science — especially in the face of wildfires raging across the western province.

"Alberta needs to be part of the climate plan as much as any other province, especially as we transition to a cleaner future," McKenna told Cross Country Checkup guest host Reshmi Nair in an interview Sunday night.

CBC has been going hard trying to sell the carbon tax to Canadians who are overtaxed enough already. The whole news site has mostly become a mouth piece for Justin Trudeau and it's getting old pretty quick.

The Rebel wouldn't take it anyway and neither would True North. How can one be "independent" if receiving a payoff from the gov't?
Even those not directly taking subsidies from government , are still getting government advertising revenue .

Necessary evil. SOme government business must be comunicated to the peons. Unfortunately the rules are rather lax and much of what passes for information is actually partisian politicing.

"Barbie" is so pathetic and so disingenuous. Seems she just can't seem to understand that Mother Earth will do as she wants and Barbie and her ilk can't do a damn thing but adjust. Unfortunately, they figure they can tax their way out of whatever the hell they think they can do and Canadians are expected to just swallow it. Me thinks Canadians need to start fighting back as we're already taxed to death, ESPECIALLY the middle class - you know, the middle class that Trudeau was going to help? Yeah, right!

the carbon tax would have been tolerable if it included scrapping the GST and lowering income taxes for example; but that's not what happened.

I'm betting the Rebel isn't even short listed for free money but CBC will get millions.

I'm not particularly in favour of public media funding; but if the state must fund media, then it should do so at arms length. In Lament for a Notion, Scott Reid suggested media vouchers. At least that way, the state has no direct say in what media to fund.
