Hi,

We are likely relocating from the east coast of Canada to Ontario. Can anyone give me some info on living in St. Catharines or Niagara Falls or Stoney Creek (Hamilton)? I am looking for the following:

- good French Immersion schools
- safe neighbourhoods for elementary-aged children
- nice house for approximately $375,000
- hockey and figure skating clubs for children

I don't want to come across as a snob, but we are white-collar people. Are either of these areas completely blue-collar? We want to find friends with things in common with us and our children! We don't want to live in a place that is old and run down.

Thank you :)

Some of my best friends are blue collar!

Make sure you tell Sunnyside where they live so he can avoid those places.

He doesn't want to be mixing with dem dar folk! Oh, and he doesn't want his kids mixing with the kids of blue collar folk neither... git it?

Aww, you people are mean! Thanks (or not) for the helpful info. I have a friend who just moved from Burlington to Hamilton and HE is the one who told me it was blue-collar! I haven't been to Hamilton in 20 years, so I have no idea what it's like, hence, I asked the question.

So why couldn't your friend steer you away from the scary blue collar people that may inhabit certain areas of Hamilton then?

Might I suggest being less condescending in your choice of words then.

Nobody would fault you for wanting a good life for your family nor for working hard to provide that life. Where there is fault is in the implication that those who occupy "blue collar" occupations are somehow less then desirable people.

Personally I find people who cast aspersions on others based on what they do for a living to be less than desirable.

I have friends who moved from the South Shore of NS to Waterdown, they're white collar folk, they seem to like it there. He drinks beer, though, you might need to be careful.

Oh wow! Hamilton is "blue-collar!"? Well you better stay the heck away from that place!

My father was "blue-collar" and I grew up in a "blue-collar" neighborhood and it was a good life.

Sorry if it is harsh... but you are a snob and you sound mean. Many in this forum are "blue-collar".

Yeah, I'm a snob whose best friend is on welfare. And I'm mean, too, because I drive her child around to lessons all the time and give her hand me down clothes. If this is what it means to be a mean snob, then I am indeed what you say I am.

What you wrote below is what makes you a snob.

You came across as a "holier than thou" twat. What's the problem with "blue collar"? What's the difference, other than half the blue collar workers probably make more money than half the white collar workers.

Those blue collar workers have the stench of money due to their blood and sweat not like the white collar people.

See what happens??????

Ask a simple question in a forum and it gets analyzed, dissected....wannabe lawyers, (you have them in every forum), will give you the third degree, and unless you know what the meaning of the word is, is?? You're shyte out of luck.;-)

Now if you admit you're NDP, Liberal or Conservative....you will be despised by only part of the membership...

Don't post against Jews, islam, Christians or Atheists and you might survive:smile:

That won't leave much to talk about.........so maybe posting here was a bad idea altogether...
