I have no particular problem with your politics on this, mentalfloss. I'm just pointing out that you understand global warming science like you understand magnetohydrodynamics, i.e., not at all. It's a political and emotional thing for you. You neither understand nor care about the facts.

Oh Mentalone,

My two year drop is about twenty five times more convincing that your two week hot spell. BTW did you know that every year thirteen people on earth die from cold exposure for every one that dies of heat exposure? Where's the compassion?

Global temperature rises could be double those predicted by climate modelling. Yep, sure could! Could cool too.

Temperature rises as a result of global warming could eventually be double what has been projected by climate models, according to an international team of researchers from 17 countries. Wow, an international team of researchers. We are impressed. Why, that's instant cred. Yesiree, temps could double, or not, or cool as is most likely.

Sea levels could also rise by six metres or more even if the world does meet the 2 degree target of the Paris accord. Guess you missed the part about "6000 years" didn't you.
By that time pigs could be flying.

I'm always struck by how they who compose this stuff rely so extensively on words like could, might, and if and then expect everyone to panic. Some obviously do. It takes all kinds I guess.

The only increase in urgency is on the part of the grant addicted advocacy pseudoscientists to get their next application in.

33 dead Quebecois is normal.

33 Quebecois are always dying from heat. Anything else would be unusual.

And also - Hillary.

JT better hurry and reach a trade deal with China so they can import cheap air conditioners or maybe better yet drop the tariffs on them :)

Why waste money on negotiators? Hong Kong adopte unilateral free trade and it's prospered ever since without needing to spend tons of time and money on incompetent negotiators. Just get it over with already.

If we're concerned about the impact on Canadian dairy farms, then at least cut subsidies for now and pass a law adopting unilateral free trade in seventy years form now. That way we have a deadline for unilateral free trade while farmers have plenty of time to adapt. No more excuses.

MONTREAL — Health authorities say up to 70 people may have died in Quebec as a result of heat-related complications since the beginning of an early July heat wave that saw temperatures climb to more than 40 C with the humidex.
Temperatures have since cooled off across the province and a spokesperson with Quebec’s Public Health Department says Monday it would no longer be giving updates on heat-related deaths because “the situation is back to normal.”
Most of the deaths occurred in Montreal, with 34 cases reported to authorities.
The city’s morgue became so overcrowded during the heat wave that it partnered with a funeral home, where it sent bodies for storage.
Montreal’s public health office says the majority of people who died in the city during the heat wave were over 60 and suffered from chronic illnesses.
Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard says no patients died in government-run health-care centres.
