We’re talking live to Andrew Enns, executive vice president of Leger, the official pollster for Postmedia and the pollster with a consistent record of accuracy. The latest Postmedia-Leger poll came out Wednesday, and Andrew will be taking questions about it, about what’s really happening with the polling this election campaign, and how pollsters are measuring support given the difficulty in reaching certain segments of the population.

He’ll be taking your questions at noon ET, with the conversation moderated by Stuart Thomson below. It will last about an hour.

You can ask your questions in the comment section below and we’ll try to get to as many as we can.

For somebody with time on their hands today, this could be very interesting to shoot in questions about potential Chinese bots, etc….

Speaking of Polls…A friend (in his mid-70’s) just left after stopping over for coffee. He came over after voting (advance polling), and said it was lined up around the block with people. Interesting. No idea who voted for whomever, but we’re out here on the prairie.

The old rule is high voter turnout usually goes against the guy currently in power.

We were in an out in out station without delay. The only hiccup was when they gave me 2 ballots.
We went this evening. It was dead. Just us but in my riding there is zero chance of my CPC MP losing. Oddly it's a heavily NDP leaning riding Provincially. I had no idea who the Lib, NDP, Green or PPC candidates were until I read the ballot.

Ontario just elected a Conservative Provincial government. Yet they are leaning to the Liberals Federally. Not sure why the difference.

Their reasons for getting out early vary.

"The economy, that's probably the biggest issue for me," said Peter Xing, waiting in a line at a Vancouver polling station. "And just the whole world politics, I think we just need a strong leader."

Some voters told CBC News they were in line for more than two hours at a polling station in Vancouver's West End.

In St. John's, Carl Aylward said he was motivated by U.S. President Donald Trump's rhetoric about Canada becoming the "51st state."

"This is why I want to get out," he said. "We're not for sale."

Across Toronto, voters were also reporting lines up to two hours long, with some saying they've never seen such long lines to vote.

While some were heartened, taking to social media to call the turnout "incredible" and "momentous," others complained about slow ballot processing.

At the southeast Winnipeg community centre, where temperatures were still below freezing when polls opened, Barbara Maguire said the lineup was "already out the door" when she arrived around 9:15 a.m.

"This is a vital election for Canada, and I'm just thrilled to see the turnout this early in the morning," she said.

In Prince George, B.C., Tracy Larson said she arrived to vote at Trinity United Church with her husband at 11 a.m., and they stuck out a two-and-a-half hour line because they'll be out of town on election day.

Normally, she said, they'd be in and out of the polling station in "10 or 15 minutes."

It was a tough wait for the couple, as her husband has mobility issues and uses a walker.

Larson said some elderly people weren't able to wait.
Last week, Elections Canada said more than 130,000 Canadians had already voted by special ballot, more than double the number cast at the same point in the 2021 election. The agency issues special ballots to Canadians who don't want to wait until election day or for advance polls.

For voters who plan to turn up for advance polls, Maudsley says the best times to avoid long lines tend to be before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m.

All parties have been pushing people to do advanced polls here. Not sure why. I talked to 2 people yesterday that did and they said the lineup was longer than normal on election day. With the increase in population, lengthening the time frame for voting certainly makes sense.

Easter Sunday. Met family for brunch (beating the church crowd), then we went and voted. No line ups…but a constant steady flow of people.

Spoke with the dude signing out the ballots & he says many voting have commented that it’s the first time in years they’ve voted.

People don't come out the first time to keep the current guy in power.

Elections Canada said in a news release Tuesday that the four days of advance polling between Friday and Monday set a new record for turnout, with 7.3 million people casting ballots early.

That's up 25 per cent from the 5.8 million people who took part in advance voting in the 2021 federal election.

Elections Canada said it made adjustments to deal with long lineups at polling stations in the early part of the long weekend.

Voters can still cast a ballot early at an Elections Canada office until 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

It looks like one of the big areas of disagreement among some polls is what non-voters in 2021 are going to do.
Darrell Bricker, the Global CEO of Public Affairs for Ipsos said that a large percentage of the people that he and other polling firms are speaking to won’t actually vote. In 2021, voter turnout was 62.3% while in 2019 it was 67%.
“So, if they’re weighted disproportionately to one party or another, and those parties voters are not as motivated as another party’s voters, and they’re making up their minds late, you can we can end up with some surprises and things that a poll can’t catch,” Bricker said.

Sounds familiar.

Polling…it stops Sunday night (as far as the release of results go), so the last people polled would be Sunday morning or Sunday noon-ish, so that the results could be tabulated, etc…& it doesn’t take into account those whose arse’s don’t leave the couch, though they participate in a poll.

In about 72 hours, we’ll know the punchline behind this next Federal Election. I can see that Carney went with the shortest election cycle allowed so that hopefully (for him) the truth behind his lies don’t come out until after the election is over.
