my wife measured and says I got 12 inches.
She, once again, used the ruler with cm's. stead of inches. Gonna have to have a talk with her, Gerryh.
From proud to cowed in a nanosecond.

Funny you should mention the windows, Ariadne, my sister just had to practically dislocate her shoulder to pull her window closed just now (as it was frozen open). On the upside, it's no longer snowing around here; on the downside, it is COLD, and the roads are extremely icy.
By Wednesday or Thursday we are going to have three or four days of rain and with any luck that should take care of any most of the snow. We kind of got spoiled last year when we missed the snow entirely in our neck of the woods.
I got up to make coffee at 6 this morning and my kitchen sink tap is ... frozen. I think this is probably not a good thing, so I'm boiling water to pour down the drain. The kitchen window is still frozen open - about 6 inches - and it was about -33 last night ... but this has never happened in the 11 years I've been here.
If it is your tap that is frozen, putting hot water down the drain won't help. A frozen pipe could split so I suggest you turn off the water and use a hair dryer to warm it up.
I don't have a hair dryer. What do you mean - split? I was hoping that by pouring hot water down the drain it would warm everything up a little and hopefully prevent a burst pipe. Are you saying this might be the wrong thing altogether?
