We have a situation where people complain about using up an exhaustable resource, while people are complaining about cleaning up a "dirty" source for use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YA CAN'T SUCK AND BLOW AT THE SAME TIME!

I have no problem with your assessment on what's better for Canadian business, and to that degree, there is no argument.

You've hit on an important component - that being the business case... Let's also not forget that there is also a social case that supports the development of the oil sands.. Canada has some very expensive social programs and infrastructure needs. The direct and indirect revenues from the oil/gas sector pay for a whole bunch of stuff that we want/need.

But our own government took the time to convince us that one oil endeavour is ethical for the same reasons it is now really pushing a second endeavour.

It is ethical.. Same as the argument against blood diamonds.

So is this is part of the ethical oil campaign? LOL

It's funny how a simple truth drew the ire of some people.

Please remember that if we're to support the CPC "ethical campaign" it is defined by avoiding inhumane regimes. You cannot accept this simple truth and support exporting to China without:

a) Sacrificing your ethical campaign

or

b) Admitting you're a hypocrite

Thereis nothing inhumane or enviromentally dirty about pumped from the ground heavy crude.

To make everyboody happy we'll sell the Chinese the synthetic and sell Americans the heavy.

I'm pretty sure the ethical oil campaign had to do with the involvement of despotic regimes and absolutely nothing to do with the environment.

That could be just a hunch though.

No, it's about "environment".

Canada’s ‘ethical oil’ push gets tarred in British papers

UK secretly helping Canada push its ‘dirty’ fuel,” reads the top-of-page headline in Monday’s Guardian. In the story picked up by several other papers, the London daily used an access-to-information request to unearth a series of memos in which Britain’s top officials promise to help Canada overturn a proposed European Union move to label Alberta oil-sands petroleum as a high-pollution product.

Railcar after railcar with pipe labeled XL is still heading south down the Soo Line.

The ethical oil campaign pushed by Ezra Levant and championed by Stephen Harper was about the environment?

I'm going to get some work done.

Please - continue waffling.

Ok then.. Develop the alternative.

In the meantime, should we hoard the stuff until such time that it has no use or value?

We are selling it last I checked, but building a pipeline would merely accelerate its exploitation.

I'm all for selling to the US or anyone else for that matter, as long as the Crown does not sell it at too low a cost.

Do you have any idea how much oil Canada has? Did you know only a small percentage is oil sands oil?

We may have much oil, and so do nations have many cars and trucks to fill. If we're not careful, it might last only another hundred years or so.

Accept my condolences MF... Seeing that your argument is now relegated to debating the ethical nature of the resource, it would appear that you've run out of real arguments.

Sorry about that.

Selling into multiple markets will yield the best possible price.

100 years? Try 500 or more.

Only 5% of SK's oil has been explored and tapped. That big yellow area is alllll oil.

Man, it sure doesn't take much to piss off and rankle anti-conservatives. They so sensitive eh.

Our little buddy Steve even said he was told by senior U.S. doods that Keystone will get approved anyway. Don't panic.

Funny how hypocrites will buy all kinds of Chinese sweatshop/filthy factory/human rights condition crap from just about every store on earth but if ya wanna sell 'em some oil, well, just wait a darn minute there bub.
