Rather than belittle the question. How about trying to answer the question.

If homosexual couples have the right to choose their life partners, from a human rights standpoint, what makes polygamists or adult incest different?

The same-sex proponents have made this a human-rights issue rather than a moral issue and I'm having difficulty understanding how they can demand their rights and yet want to ensure the polygamists, incest and paedophiles don't have theirs recognized.

RE: Assuming a lot

To fight for banning gay marriage, Harper is assuming to know "what god wants".
Homosexuality must be seen by Harper as an affliction, something that is wrong, to be a threat to 'the traditional definition of marriage'. Thats a judgement call at best.
Many Canadians no longer even believe in god, and many others do not believe in the "traditional defintion of god".
Harper does not know the will of god, or the beliefs of Canadians. It is a travesty to put them together to ban gay marriage. It is a discrimination against gays based on a belief, nothing more, but he hides behind polite phrases like "protecting the traditional defintion of marriage". I think most Canadians see thru that.

what makes polygamists or adult incest different?

Your sexuality is something you are born with, the other two are choices.
You are not born a polygamist, no, you just have to be a horny old man who wants to have a harem and hide it under the guise of religion.

peapod,

I'll grant you that both incest and polygamy are choices but what does that have to do with human rights?? The right to choose their own partners is what the whole debate is about.

Are you claiming that if your born with your sexual orientation you have the right to practice it? If so, I believe more and more paedophiles are also starting to claim that they are born with their sexual orientation. There have been situations where the man-boy society has wanted to put forth their relationships(men with teens) for recognition. How do you feel about these situations?

Re: RE: Harper says he'll pro

Reverend Blair said:
So why should those who belong to a religion try to restrict the rights of those that don't share their beliefs?

As I'm sure you have noticed, my biggest concern is that the government doesn't force churches to perform the rite.

I was concerned about this because I don't really trust the government. I doubt I'm alone in this thinking.

I'm reasonably sure they won't force the issue anytime soon.

I do wonder why incest and polgamy is alway brought into this discussion. Incest and polgamy are sex crimes. Homosexuality is not. I am talking about two consenting ADULTS.

I do not or would not EVER support polgamy, its a way for a horny old man to have sex with childern,(I consider a any girl under 16 a child) under the guise of religion. Interesting how you can do just about anything you want you if its under a religious umbrella.

But in truth this is the way it is for me,I use my own morality to make such decisions, and so do others that don't agree. They just draw there moral line in a different place.

peapod,

Your avoiding the question. You claim that same-sex relationships involves two consenting adults. Could you then please explain the difference between a same-sex relationship and two 25 year-old twins who want to have their relationship recognized.

Similarly, if 5 adults(2 men and 3 women) all want to get married, how is this different from a same-sex relationship.

Please limit your arguement to a human rights standpoint because that is the issue that I have problem with. The same-sex proponents claim that this is a human rights debate and not a moral debate, so from their perspective morality is not an issue when it comes to recognizing various sexual relationships.
