Basically, the Church controlled nearly every aspect of the people's lives for centuries here, but have lost control over the last 40 years. Harper and his lot are trying to revive some of the Church's principles for their own benefit. I quote Pierre Trudeau, who said something to the effect that "the state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation".

Understandable. I was hoping for example, but oh well.

I to believe in the principal of the separation of the church and state, in the US Constitutional sense.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

I do believe this was in reference to the act of sodomy.

Makes you wonder.... Trudeau said this some time ago, perhaps 20 years or so. Why didn’t he change the definition of marriage then?

Blair, I agree with your last statement.

From a human rights perspective, could anyone please explain to me the difference between same-sex couples having the right to choose their partners and polygamy couples having the right to choose their partners?

Taking it a step further could anyone please explain to me the difference between a same-sex couple and say two adult siblings wanting to have their "relationship" legally recognized??

Many people who support same-sex marriages are opposed to these relationships however, I haven't heard their arguements which differentiates their relationships from the others.

They are all seperate issues and can be decided on seperately. You make it sound like that if we allow gay marriage than anything goes. White and blacks marry now..and they even have childern, and some of them are even smart, the kids I mean, considering that they are suppose to be retarded...I mean mixing the blood makes you retarded right...at one time you could not marry someone of colour. Now we all know how lame that was right?
