Who cares what the Liberals interests are?

If I'm the Premier of a province, I do! Harpo could be removed from office by way of a non confidence vote. If the incoming government is not interested in appointing our elected candidate them I'm not sure I want to go through the process. I'm not willing to spend money on an election for nothing, especially in these economic times.

You keep glossing over my suggestion. It seems only logical and just, that if a Senator is a federal position, that Elections Canada should cover the cost of the vote.

Elections Canada is NOT going to coverthe cost of the vote for a senator. Senators in Canada are NOT elected, therefore why would elections Canada pay for a vote that is not binding OR legal.

Not elected now, I know. That's the whole point of a suggestion, and not inconsistent with the type of legislation that Harper promised his government would pursue.

It doesn't cover senate elections. I'm not glossing over your suggestion. Changing EC's mandate is not realistic in the short term.

:violent1: If it covered Senate Elections, this wouldn't be an issue, and they wouldn't have needed to make campaign promises, or the myriad speeches they did before becoming the Government.

...and if horses laid eggs they'd be chickens. They don't now so any change to their mandate would have to go through parliament. It's not going to happen.

Who is going to stand in the way? The Liberals? Yeah right. :laughing3:

I love how one of his election talking points was the treachery of an appointed senate. It be nice if he grew a backbone, had some faith in the constituency and created an elected senate.
