By the way, Jimmy Pat, if you want to listen to what I mean, here's what your boy needs to get to. . .

Let It Ride- The Wayfarers - YouTube

Or this. . .

Donegal X-Press at Mick O'Sheas - Letter to a Friend - YouTube

Or preferably this. . .

Pissed Off Paddy Barman - Quinn's Diaries - The Donegal X-Press - YouTube

But he doesn't want to sound like that, he has a unique sound, the Wayfarers are toneless and boring. That sound was boring when it was new. Incredibly over used now.

Not the sound, the quality of singing and music.

You aren't getting it, are you?

OK, I'm done. I've given you and your friend the best advice I can, from the point of view of a listener and purchaser of music, including folk and folk rock.

What you do with it is entirely up to you.

My comment to darkbeaver notwithstanding, no charge. Best of luck to you both.

everyone's a tin ear critic. especially when they can't read, write, play, drum, throat-sing or speak 'music'.

anyway, is this like the important poop throwing guitar riff thread? my taste is better than your taste and all like that?

Oh well he recorded those all on an iPod of course the sound quality isn't top notch, but if you're still talking about the quality of his singing and guitar playing you have to stop acting like everything you say is right, it's your opinion and that's it, jeez I thought friendship was magic, you're never gonna make friends with such a close minded attitude.

Looking like it, some people don't understand the meaning of opinion.

well it sure ain't experience and there's a pretty big goddam difference...the local post-counts and know-it-alls have the biggest a s s h o l e s when it comes to opinions.

there's no accounting for taste either. I kinda dug Chevy Chase's 1980 Rappers Plight while most snobs might say I was nuts.

He has a lot of growing to do, musically. That doesn't mean he can't or won't. If he has the drive to keep on keeping on then he will develop and have fun with it. Having fun and growing at what you do is what anything worth doing is all about.

Northern Ontario,
You never know who is gonna make it in Music, Stomping Tom was playing at the "Radio" hotel in Kapuskasing in '63 and I didn't much care for his music......
Some people who liked it, invested in him and made a few bucks, but the guy was already earning a living at it....The thing I didn't like about him, was not his lyrics....they were fine, but the melody seemed to be the same for all his songs...
But he did write a song I really liked, It was used as the theme song for the TV show The Marketplace...
Here it is....The Consumer.... The Consumer - YouTube

His songs were at least lively....
