Well, actually I worked as a high school teacher (history) for seven years, and hated almost every minute of it. And I promise, I was NEVER overpaid. I have two degrees, and (as I had no regular class) I made the princely sum of $79.35 per DAY (1990 - 1997), maximum 182 days per year. Do the math.
But that is not what I was talking about. When I went to work for Brinks, I became local firearms instructor and trainer. The introductory course included a lot on the Criminal Code and armed self defense. After they closed the local branch, I went to work for security at a local port installation, and became their trainer, and taught a course on the Charter, citizen's arrest, trespass and theft law, use of force, search etc.
Seeing as you are interested in my work history, I also worked as a farm hand, construction, on a survey crew, warehouseman, retail sales, house painter, brewery worker, longshoreman, grain elevator worker, enumerator, for the sheriff's office, history researcher, food process machine mechanic, power engineer, sugar refinery worker, flagman on the road, and probably a couple of more I've forgotten.
Oh....go wayyy back, and I was a paper boy.

The Flower Class Corvette was a British design, based on the pattern of a pre-war, civilian whale catcher. The were initially meant to stay in the Royal Navy's Costal Forces with the more heavily armed Sloops and Destroyers taking on the tough chore of escorting convoys (Frigates came later,). That ended soon into the war when it was clear that the U-Boats were a much more serious threat than they'd been in the previous war. Corvettes were pressed into service as trans-Atlantic escorts ... something that they hadn't been designed to do. Canada built a lot of them because they could be churned out by smaller yards on the Great Lakes and West Coast. They were built to mercantile standards. That is they were lightly built and they went down like a stone if they were attacked or torpedoed. The crews faired very poorly if they were sunk and in one instance, all hands died. Warships are designed to take lots of punishment but not civilian whale catchers. Only two Canadian yards were capable of producing real warships ... Canadian Vickers in Montreal and the Halifax Shipyard and they focussed on building Frigates and Destroyers. The other yards bashed out Corvettes and the similar Algerine and Bangor classes in numbers, fleshing out the beleagered convoy system west of Greenland.
To come full circle on this fascinating topic, no sub hunting ships worked out of Vancouver in the second world war.
None work out of there today.
All west coast naval ships are based out of Esquimalt and always have been.

Fortunately the guard got excited and came into the trailer to look at the loot- left the gun outside the trailer............................

The guard heard the elevator arrive and panicked and rushed to grab his gun...................the older employee was more experienced with shop lifters and saw the guard coming and shoved him off the loading dock- a head first drop onto concrete- with smashing pumpkin effect.................
The ringleader of the gang was classed as an "adult" and he had THREE OUTSTANDING CHARGE from within a SINGLE year .........
one charge for attempted RAPE, one charge for attempted MURDER in a bar and one charge of ARMED ROBBERY...............and of course he was out on bail leading this new armed robbery to pay off drug debts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the ring leader does not want more charges and he emerges from hiding and makes a run for it.............swinging the heavy bolt cutters they used to get into the trailer...............AT THE HEAD of the second employee who is standing bewildered and blocking access to the get away car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The second employee manages to get his arm up and the blow smashes it into 3 pieces which will require surgery to repair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The general public view is that if the guard had recovered the shotgun he either would have shot the 2 employees on the spot............
