The White House announced Tuesday that it would decide which journalists get access to President Donald Trump's events -- removing the power from an independent association of media outlets that has done so for decades.
The move comes amid a legal battle with the Associated Press news agency, which the White House has barred from events in spaces such as the Oval Office and Air Force One in a row over the naming of the Gulf of Mexico. Seriously.

The White House announced Tuesday that it would decide which journalists get access to President Donald Trump's events -- removing the power from an independent association of media outlets that has done so for decades.
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey, who signed a historic hydro development deal with Quebec and became a vocal critic of Donald Trump, is stepping down, saying he doesn't have the stomach for another term in the face of the all-consuming job it is to face the "maniac" U.S. president's threats? Furey, 49, an orthopedic trauma surgeon who became provincial Liberal leader five years ago, said he "loves politics" but reached the decision with his physician wife Allison "around Valentine's Day," saying the job has been a 24/7 preoccupation and was taking too much a toll on their family life.
He did not rule out one day returning to elected office, but said with the "erratic" Trump in office, the next four years were going to be too tough for him to continue working at the same pace.
"We're looking at four years of erratic, crazy, bonkers behaviour by the president of the United States," Furey told reporters.
