It had a frame but it wasn't a truck frame but a car frame used for station wagons.
Bounce forward 10 years and Rancheros and El Caminos had unitized bodies without a frame.
Trucks still do.
If an SUV started as a station wagon on a truck frame with big tires and 4x4 it was a truck but then newer SUVs have unitized bodies which are just smaller station wagons (cars) with big wheels and 4x4.
If you told me 35 years ago that people would be driving big wheeled 4x4 station wagons in the future I would have said you were insane.

A good portion of those driving big SUVs are women, who think that they are safer in their Lincoln Navigators. Those are the ones that you see upside down on the ditch come first snowfall.
