I think it's good 5that there are SOME people who stick to what they believe in. I say good for Jordin Sparks, too.

I think the whole planet could benefit if we all developed some decent principles and stuck to them.

We already tried that and ended up with people being burned at the stake, stoned to death or drowned.

What set of principles are you suggesting we all adopt? How do you plan to enforce them?

I kinda like my #1 principle: to live and let live. A couple others are to have fun in life, to help others when they ask for it, treat the planet I live on with respect, etc. You don't like my principles, that's your problem. I do and I stick to them.

I just finished reading the Kreutzer Sonata by Tolstoy, it makes a pretty good argument that the old system of courting etc (which advocates chastity for religious ideals of "purity") cause a power imbalance between the sexes which is harmful.

Thinking it is good for a girl to "save herself" is similar to thinking it is good that a girl wear a burqa. Obviously they are different but what I mean is they aren't so dissimilar in terms of taking power from women.

I think the idea of roguish males violating pure females is a myth perpetrated by romantic religious idealisms that simply don't apply today. Females are every bit the sexual creatures males are and by acknowledging that I think we step closer to equality. A woman is just as likely to follow her desires as a man is and it has been a long time since I have seen a woman being the victim of anything. Sure they can be victims of violence and that is abhorrent and not what I am talking about; I mean in terms of sexual relations. Women have a capacity for playing the victim that men really need to develop an understanding of. It is a female skill that has perpetrated a lot of social myths but is easily dismissed on closer examination. I leaned to do this when one day a wife who had left her husband explained to me why and how it was all her husbands fault. That was a ridiculous claim and I laughed at her but it got me to thinking and examining claims of victimization a lot more closely. I noticed a strong correlation between such claims and an inability (desire against) to take responsibility. Don't get me wrong, there are legitimate victims of real crime but there are few victims, if any, when it comes to the sexual games people play on each other. I know women are just as capable as men at anything.

I feel like this thread is in dire need of song, a musical perhaps.

Maybe a Madonna song.

Or maybe there are some lyrics that can capture the mood of this thread and lay it
bare.

The only lyrics that fit...

I made it through the wilderness
Somehow I made it through
Didn't know how lost I was
Until I found you

I was beat incomplete
I'd been had, I was sad and blue
But you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
Shiny and new

Chorus:

Like a virgin
Touched for the very first time
Like a virgin
When your heart beats
Next to mine

Gonna give you all my love, boy
My fear is fading fast
Been saving it all for you
'Cause only love can last

You're so fine and you're mine
Make me strong, yeah you make me bold
Oh your love thawed out
Yeah, your love thawed out
What was scared and cold

(chorus)

Oooh, oooh, oooh

You're so fine and you're mine
I'll be yours 'till the end of time
'Cause you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
I've nothing to hide

(chorus)

Like a virgin, ooh, ooh
Like a virgin
Feels so good inside
When you hold me, and your heart beats, and you love me

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Ooh, baby
Can't you hear my heart beat
For the very first time?

........... I know women are just as capable as men at anything.
I tend to agree with you for the most part. :) I frequently wonder if I really do at ANY time have the upper hand. lol Maybe I am just a pushover when it comes to her. hehehe Wouldn't trade her for anything ....... well, maybe a new 12 footer with a 6 or 7 horse outboard .... hehehehe I love razzing her. Oh, that reminds me; someone mentioned lyrics, so ....

Well, I guess it was back in '63,
When eatin' my cookin' got the better of me,
So I asked this little girl I was goin' with to be my wife.
Well, she said she would, so I said, 'I do'.
But I'da said, 'I wouldn't' if I'da just knew how sayin' 'I do'
Was gonna screw up all o' my life.

Well, the first few years weren't all that bad.
I'll never forget the good times we had,
'Cause I'm reminded every month when I send her the child support.
Well, it wasn't too long till the lust all died.
And I'll admit I wasn't too surprised,
The day I came home and found my suitcase sittin' out on the porch.
Well, I tried to get in, she changed the lock.
Then I found this note taped on the mailbox that said,
"Goodbye, turkey. My attorney will be in touch."
So I decided right then and there I was gonna do what's right
Give 'er her fair share but, brother,
I didn't know her share was gonna be that much.

She got the goldmine, (She got the goldmine,)
I got the shaft. (I got the shaft.)
They split it right down the middle,
And then they give her the better half.
Well, it all sounds sorta funny,
But it hurts too much to laugh.
She got the goldmine, I got the shaft.

Now listen up. You ain't heard nothin' yet.
Why, they give 'er the color televison set.
Then they give 'er the house, the kids and both of the cars.
See.
Well, then they started talkin' about child support, alimony,
And the costs to the court.
Didn't take me long to figure out how far in the toilet I was.
I'm tellin' ya, they have made a mistake.
'Cause it adds up to more than this cowboy makes.
Besides, everythin' I ever had worth takin' they've already took.
While she's livin' like a queen on alimony.
I'm workin' two shifts, eatin' baloney.
Askin' myself, "Why didn't you just learn how to cook?"

They give her the goldmine, (She got the goldmine,)
They give me the shaft. (I got the shaft.)
They said they're splittin' it all down the middle,
But she got the better half.
Well, it all sounds mighty funny,
But it hurts too much to laugh.
She got the goldmine, I got the shaft.

--instrumental break--

Well, she got the goldmine, (She got the goldmine,)
I got the shaft. (I got the shaft.)
They split it all down the middle,
And then they give her the better half.
Well, I guess it all sounds funny,
(Ahh, ha ha ha)
But it hurts too much to laugh.
She got the goldmine, I got the shaft.

Heh, heh. Hey, Jimmy, I got the shaft.
But I don't have to worry about totin' a billfold anymore.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
I let my wife tote it.
I'm gonna be carryin' food stamps.
You get it, judge?
I'm gonna be indebted.
That's my money.
Huh?
Contempt of court?
What do you mean I'm in contempt of court?

Listen, judge: I’s just kiddin!
