Worse than the lost fuel economy, which somehow doesn't translate into a higher carbon footprint because somebody has shares in DEF manufacturing, is the amount of downtime for vehicles and equipment caused by the DPF system. Especially since the hourly rate for the mechanic to come out and reset everything is higher than the hourly rate for the truck.

We’re paying about $175-$195 plus the Vig of 10% of labour for “shop supplies” hourly out here at this point.
The whole After-Treatment exhaust system makes vehicles highly unreliable, and the sensors tying into that system are a nightmare….& they don’t like DEF either which is very corrosive for electrical components like sensors & wiring to sensors, etc… on top of decreased mileage. It’s quite the racket.
