Kidnapping & Forced Marriage

It's not just Hindus and Muslims who do this in Asia as pagans from South East Asia do it as well:

We had a series of cases here in the Twin Cities of SE Asians kidnapping girls and forcing them into marriage about 17 years ago. The defense in these cases said, this is a cultural custom and therefore not a crime. But the state said we do not recognize this horrible practice and rightfully convicted the culprits.

Hindus, Muslims, southern Asia? How about the abuse next door (almost) to me here in the Kootenays. The men of Bountiful near Creston (BC) have been basically using women and girls for breeding purposes and slavery.

If we can't stand up for what is right; if we can't speak out about all the injustices in this world; what does that make us?? We are just as guilty as those to perpetuate the crimes to begin with are we not??

Unfortunately we are limited to speech here only but there are some people who walk the talk. We do what we can within reason unless we have unlimited funds and power.

I am truly interested in "home improvement" over saving other lands first - but that is me....

I dislike countries standing up before television cameras blasting countries for their lack of funding and aid in support of their extreme poverty when they themselves are created it and doing nothing to change
their own ways. I refer to many African nations when I write this.

I guess I'm just tired of the laying of the guilt game for western democracies who are not only expected but demanded that they continue to contribute and change things - when the people refuse to change themselves.

I have to say that I agree with that statement.

I somewhat agree with this. But, we do need to be part of the global community and stand up for what is acceptable in human behavior, ESPECIALLY when people are unable to do so themselves. Unfortunately, a lot of the critisim of western democracies experience come from "within" with none (i.e. UN being one) of these "critic's" challenging the countries who promote the various horrific activies employed by these governments. That's what I find most frustrating.

Sassy I cant read these articles. Im empathic and I get chest pains enough without adding to them. I will add my two cents on the abuse in our own countries. Ive been abused sinse I was 5 right up to 5 years ago thats 33 years of beatings, rapes, emotional abuse and psychological abuse. There is only one way to get out of that situation. Feel good about yourself. Even as I laid in a coma that wasnt enough. I read a book, that sparked it. I practiced looking in the mirror and actually smiling from there it snowballed. My daughter has a "Mom" (yanno the other woman you loved just as much as your real Mom) After listening to me talk about loving myself so much more than I used to, she paid attention. She left her husband after he beat her, she found her childhood sweetheart and their together. Its amazing what we manifest for ourselves when we have the power to love ourselves........its empowerment thats going to save these women.

As a woman thats been abused over and over I can tell you you get accoustomed to being hurt. It proves we're alive. Pain is a proof that we exist. If your told a million times your fat your ugly your dumb you not good enough you'll never get a real man noone will have you. You believe it. The hitting becomes welcome because it proves your alive. The words are the worst because they negate your existance.

I have no answers for the women in other countries because if you force them away from what they know.......they'll find someone else to make them feel alive.

Because of China's population control policy, the culture has succumbed to selective gender births and female infanticide.
