Girl, 7, dies after fall from tractor

A seven-year-old girl died after she fell from a moving tractor and was struck by it Saturday afternoon, provincial police say.
The collision occurred on a road just south of Tweed, Ont., which is located about halfway between Toronto and Ottawa.
The girl was rushed to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Her name wasn’t released.
The Ministry of Agriculture has been notified and will assist police with the investigation.

How big of a sign do farm parents need to be given that says nobody is to ride anyplace but the seat? O,H&S should visit all the farms in the area and do interviews and any infractions of the latest safety codes would see the children removed from said farms until they have all the certificates they would need to do the same tasks in a 'business'.

Silly parent. Your supposed to teach your kids to drive the 10t before letting them on the tractor.

Lots of recreational dads lose their kids to ATV crashes also so it isn't exclusive but it is heavy industry with a 12 yr old driving 18 wheelers around the farm, not always with the best instructions. No backing up when body parts are spread across the yard. Any parent worth his salt would be 15 seconds behind them in death, it's not like they can make another just like them, oh wait, that is just how farmers think apparently.

It must be an ON thing. If a kid were riding in my tractor they'd fall off the fridge but not to the ground.

There is nothing wrong with a 9 year old running a tractor. Riding on one with equipment behind is a different story although 10 generations of farm kids have done it. Those of us that grew up in logging camps prety much all ran equipment long before we were old enough.

Want to bet she was in the 'bucket', latch them in until the thrill wears off. Fall protection should be part of their training and standing in a bucket while moving an auger head might be in their future, do it safely. Lat industrial accident I followed was some supervisor had his 15 year old son working on an asphalt crew and poor training had him completely buried by a load of hot-mix. 325F. Should never have happened.

Take the kids along as observers, if the business requires child labor (free) then it is a failed business already.
