I do believe that people should be allowed to own guns to defend themselves and their families but packin' on the streets would be chaos until all the bad shots were wiped out.
I do think the army could be called in and round up all those gangs, ship them to Iraq or Afghanistan, arm them to the nines and just leave them there. If they think they are all that tough, they will learn real quick how wrong they are.
Guns are phallic symbols. "My gun is bigger than yours."Not a bad idea. ( the roundup and exporting them )
We see every day what too many guns for the purposes of "self defense" floating around in the US has done. I really think that owning guns for self protection is an excuse just to have a weapon......which many think empowers them in some way.
Does anyone know any stats about how many times owning a gun and using it for self protection has actually worked in the way folks believe it works.??? How did those situations end up??

When I lived in the bush I had a gun for hunting and for the real danger of finding a bear in my cabin. One of my neighbours was in the outhouse one morning for her constitutional when she heard a noise below her and looked down the hole to see a bear having a fresh hot breakfast that she had just deposited. She never went back to that outhouse without her husband riding shotgun for her.
When I lived in the bush, it was about learning to survive in the wilderness. I had a gun mostly for food, although I lived mostly on fish and wild crafted fruit and vegetables. Now that I live in town I do not have a gun and the hassles of getting one are just too much of a pain in the ass to consider. I am planning to move out closer to the wild, but this time I will have a cross bow just in case I need to hunt.LOL........the story sounds funny in the telling, but the situation could be more than a little un nerving.
Have no guns and would not even consider it. Even though , we have bear visitations in our back yard. (including cubs ......depending on the season. ). They wonder off when they find nothing to eat. Mind you this is not unusual......due to proximity to Whistler and surroundings.
but I digress.......
